I watched a man with 3 identical panels but light to very dirty accumulation. The best performance increase was 9% measured the same day within 10 minutes of the cleaning. It’s just not worth the money for a pro - but love your idea about the clean water hose off idea

No deionized water?
@TeslaFamilyChannel5 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! Nope, just plain tap water through the water hose. Main purpose is to clear the heavy pollen. I've got a soft brisle brush on an extension pole that I might try this Spring.

If you use normal tap water will it leave stains on panels?
@TeslaFamilyChannel2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! No, I didn't have a problem with normal tap water.

Nice video! Do you know the TDS levels of your tap water? Out here in San Diego we have TDS levels of over 500ppm which is some of the hardest water in the nation. With our TDS levels being so high it makes rinsing the panels with a hose worse, the mineral dry up on the panels causing a heavy white residue. We use a water fed pole with solar panel cleaning brushes along with an RO/Di water filtration system to clean solar panels and Tesla Solar Roofs. We have customers reporting up to 40% increase in energy performance after cleaning. We have some videos on our channel you can check out.

Thanks for watching! I do not know the TDS levels but we do not need a water softener so suspect water is not hard or low TDS. I am sure a professional cleaning does a better job than my DIY spray job. Thanks for sharing how your operation works!

Hi, this is CK, live in California and its very educative video. Question should I turn off the power going to the grid before cleaning? Appreciate your time. Thank You.
@TeslaFamilyChannel5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! You don't need to turn off the power but I recommend only spraying early in the morning or late in the evening when the panels are not in the sun.

My production has gone down over the past couple months. Living in a new build construction neighborhood their is a bunch a dust. I will look to get my panels cleaned.

Thanks for watching! Yes, likely lots of dirt/dust unless you're in an area with lots of clouds and/or wildfire smoke.

Good Evening @@TeslaFamilyChannel Today (after cleaning last night) was my highest production day since July 16th. So I will definitely be rinsing off my panels one a month. I did notice some pollen that didn’t get cleaned off. I think I will pay a professional in October before the rainy season and March before the long summer days start.

This is fantastic news! So glad the panel cleaning helped increase your production numbers!

I would like to have solar but roof is too high for me to be able to clean. Signed up for community solar that should start next month.

Thanks for watching! Community solar is a great plan if your roof is too high. I also read that you can get virtual net metering which is a nice perk.

Great video…. The easier the better. Good clean water flow can get panels to about 90% - perfect for best production of electricity. This whole thing about solar cleaning is mostly nonsense. But your water hose method is effective and way cheaper

By just spraying the panels, the rain would do a better job. Unless your location did not rains often. I am thinking about using power jet spray..

Thanks for watching! Yes, in the Spring when the pollen is heavy, we don't always have rain or storms.

Do you brush your panels? Or just water is enough?
@TeslaFamilyChannel3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The safest method is to just use water and spray from the ground. I don't have a brush but have seen some that can be used to reach panels from the ground. I don't recommend climbing a ladder and working on the roof due to the risk of falling.

Glass requires agitation with a brush to get it clean, much like brushing a car with soapy water to get the film off of car's paint.

People really should hire professionals. We have the best appropriate equipment . Using tap water will only leave residue, and mineral deposits. Which dust will there after stick to all the more. Pure water is needed. Plus climbing ladders is what we do everyday.

Two things to consider here: Your panels were barely dirty to begin with. And scondly, you just rinsed them? Didn't brush them 😕
@TeslaFamilyChannel Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Tesla says you don't need to brush them. Just a safe and simple spray from the ground does the trick if you haven't seen rain in a while.
@robertbrazeau70497 ай бұрын
Too bad you got hit with the two rainy days. The difference between the two days you used to compare output were a week apart and during the spring that probably means there was a difference of about 13 or 14 minutes of sunlight. I'm not sure how much energy that would produce, but it certainly would increase the total at least a little bit.
@TeslaFamilyChannel7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! I took another look at the data for those two days (4/20 and 4/26) and even though there was likely those 13/14 minutes of extra daylight (per sunrise/sunset times) between the day I cleaned the panels 4/20 and the day I compared to following the cleaning 4/26, my generation length was the same both days (12h15m) from generation start to end. The only difference was that generation started and ended about 15 min later on 4/26 so the whole generation curve was just shifted forward by 15 minutes. The peak was higher following the cleaning by 0.3 kW. Based on the same generation length, I think any extra daylight would have been insignificant to the results. Thanks for pointing this out though. It was fun to go back and look again!
