It's so true, people don't realize- you can literally die of a broken heart. Happens to animals, too.

My dad had a chicken who laid eggs, nursed them, but after a while it became apparent that they were not fertilized, and she wouldn’t let him take the eggs away so they were there till they rotted. Took them away once they rotted, and two days later that same chicken was found dead. It was in a secure coop, no sign of a struggle, it just died of a broke heart.

He died of a broken heart and yes in the medical industry we do call it that. I have worked in Age Care for 10 years and have not yet had a case of it. Though waking one struggle to live after the loss is heartbreaking. I once sad with a resident as she sobbed in my arms asking how does she live without him. And my own grandmothers were the same after losing my grandfathers. The cry of a spouse is so deep and sorrowful.

My great great grandmother died after her 13th died from pneumonia At 5 months old (1911) she had already lost three other children 3 months prior to this within a 6 month period from pneumonia. Her last words 2 hours after she buried the 5 month old baby were “I can’t live much longer like this” and not even 15 minutes later she died while laying by their graves in their yard crying.. it’s devastating!

My great grandma helped my great great grandfather care for the rest of the kids before leaving to VA to be a cosmologist for 20 years, she wondered back here a few years after going through school and that’s when she met my great grandfather. That side of the family was out of Aurora, NC where her youngest brother passed last month he was 92 and was the last surviving family member of my grandma mothers family, he was WWII and Korea veteran where he retired from the Army and worked as a police officer for another 20 years!
