Citric acid in lime juice dissolves rust, iron (iii) to iron (ii). You then wash away the soluble iron oxide. This technique is used in restoring rusted tools.

Thank you so much for this comment! I didn't have any lemons but I had citric acid salt in my pantry. I dissolved a good amount of that in some water and added in my orange tinged shirt and voila! The water turned yellow and I had my white shirt back!

Your lemon juice tip was so simple and worked like a charm. A cream colored shirt and a large rust mark. Lots of lemon juice and no sun (cloudy day), so I left the half lemon sitting on the shirt. Four hours later the rust was entirely gone. P.S. Excellent video.

My son had his brand new team Dry-Fit (100% polyester) sports t-shirt with his last name on the back, with bright white stripes on it. He left it inside the JetSki storage along with old rusty anchor. In a few days we recovered the shirt but it was badly damaged with a LOT of rusty spots, and some old rust particles pеpermanently stuck with the fabric. I thought that was it and was ready to dispose this brand new shirt, but decided to seek advise from the KZbin - this was the 1st video that popped up. I decided to give it a shot. Did not have a lemon though, used a regular lemon extract that most of us would have in the kitchen. Soaked in all the rusty spots, let it stay for about 10 minutes soaked, than moved it to the sunny deck and left for work. In the evening I looked and it was amazing - every rusty spot was gone! And I will tell you - the rust spots we had on this shirt were 100 times worth than what this lady has in her video - I didn't think it will work - but it did! The acid in the concentrate really does all the work. If you rub it a little after soaking - it will do even better job.

Yep! It works! Even on semi old rust stains as long as you haven't tried to machine wash it and dry it yet. I had a pretty white lace VS bra that I got rust on (don't ask lol) I didn't want to set the stain by drying it or washing it so I left it. After a couple weeks I was like "lemme at least try. " So I found this video and lo and behold, I have my pretty bra back!

At first I doubts this method. I watch so many video about this method, and then decided to try it because I really need to remove the rust stains from my white dress. I used Lime (bc I only have lime at home). And this is amazing. I can't believe it works. I need to repeat it for bigger stains until it disappear completely... The lime does leave a (little bit yellow) stains, but I can wash it with detergent.. Thank you for the tips😆

I'm just sharing... I managed to remove the rust from my white blouse today by applying a thick coat of toothpaste! It is so simple and worked so well, better than the lemon and baking sofa method, which did not do a good job of removing it ! I had white blouses, which I kept in my wardrobe untouched for a few years, and when I took it out to wear, there were rusty spots which were formed on my blouse! I tried removing it with lemon juice, baking soda, and detergent, all of them could not remove the rust ! Finally, I decided to apply a thick coat of toothpaste directly to the rusty area, followed by rubbing the rusty area, and guess what, the rusty stains came off 👍 🤩 The toothpaste was those travel toothpaste which I collected during my hotel stay. Any of such toothpaste will work ! U may like to try it. I am so happy to be able to wear my favourite blouses again 😍

OxiClean is some nice stuff! I have used the powder form and like to put a few scoops in some hot water to let the whites soak. It works pretty well and is a lot safer than bleach because you don't have to worry about it getting on anything and bleaching it!
@adampilarski70833 жыл бұрын
Don’t use oxi clean with rust - the oxygen will set the stain permanently! Use the lemon juice.

Do not put it straight on linen…..an obvious case of not following instructions…it ate holes in my shirt. It was stained , I think red wine. Later discovered that to wet the item and sprinkle regular salt on it, and that will lift red wine, at least from cotton.

I will say it plainly ... I love your video. Thank you. I will try it with a new pair of jogging pants that got a big rust spot, I don't know how, probably by seating on top of the metal part part of a few year old thread mill. I am trying it right now. In all probabilities there is a chemical reaction: Citric Acid (from the lemon) + Fe2O3 (the rust) = salt: ferrous citrate that doesn't stain I guess (just like table salt). Thank you again.
