According to the WHO, 16% of the world's population is disabled 1.3 Billion people!) that is 1 in 6 of us. It's a massive minority and one that anyone can join in just a second, which is why it's so important for everything to be designed/implemented from an accessible standpoint. It is SO MUCH MORE expensive to retrofit a place to be accessible than to just build it that way in the first place! As well as acquiring a disability at some point in life, just think about "temporary disability" like breaking a bone, SO MANY people live alone or just don't have the support of someone who can be there 24/7 for an extended period of time. Melissa's 2 videos give a teeny tiny glimpse of just one small aspect of living with a disability/restriction is like. If you have a broken arm/leg etc and experience a temporary period of disability and how hard just that small change makes life so much more difficult, please continue to be open minded about how other people with significantly more disabling conditions live, often on such inhuman budgets due to being unable to work, yet having a disability causes day to day expenses in excess of the norm! So many countries worldwide will be voting this year, no matter where you live or your political affiliation, please consider how, who you are planning on voting for treats people with disabilities, that minority who you could join at any moment and with 1 in 6 people affected - people who you know and love. You learn a lot about a society by how it treats the most vulnerable, it may not affect you right now but it most likely will at some point in the future

90% of people have or will be disabled for at least 6mo in their lifetime and it's much higher for those that reach retirement age. Also the rate of currently disabled people in the US was 25% pre COVID! Also, on the political side I heard something that kinda blew my mind: all oppression is rooted in ablism. It's always the idea that X people can't be treated equally because they are "deficient" in some way. Women are weak, African Americans are stupid (used to be a medical term for the mentally disabled btw) even the idea Asians are smart. It's always about how capable they are or aren't. If we are to end discrimination in all it's forms, teaching the idea that disabled people are just as valuable and capable of independence as everyone else is the fastest, most effective and, in the end, the only way to do so. Imho a good place to start is to live up to the idea behind the ada and create a built environment that is actually fully accessible for everyone! (Ex the handicapped parking at my local playground doesn't connect to anything and doesn't even have a curb cut! Meanwhile I can't get there via the sidewalk or street because both get blocked with parked cars, many trucks & SUVs with hoods taller than I am when standing up!) Ty for reading my little rant. Please seek out disabled creators here and on other online and IRL spaces. 💜🥄💜

Thank you so so much for this very informative and kind comment. That’s what these people in power don’t understand, they too can become disabled at any moment or someone they love and money doesn’t fix everything. In 2016 the CDC went behind our backs and made guidelines that the DEA took it as a law and it’s not (they’re guidelines), they revised them but it hasn’t helped us in the chronic pain community much. We live in excruciating pain 24/7 and we basically have the DEA, CDC etc…in our doctor’s office. I lost my brother due to him being taken off his much needed pain medication cold turkey. We have a fentanyl crisis in America, not an Opioid Crisis. Look at the statistics. Now we have our veterans k*lling themselves bc they can’t take the pain, we lose people in the chronic pain community to suicide all the time and it’s heartbreaking. Some people can live without medication, but some of us unfortunately cannot. Our doctors are being scared out of prescribing, bc some really good doctors went to prison. One doctor who was in his 70s, house got raided when he was out of the state at another doctor’s hearing as a character witness (I believe). Anyways this doctor treated some of the worst pain in the world like CRPS (chronic regional pain syndrome) and he just decided to retire…his name is Dr Forest Tennant (he did it with tears in his eyes). You can read his life’s work and what happened by just typing his name in Google. He was highly respected and still is. Again thank you so much for your comment 💜

I have an high functioning autistic son, he a germophobe and he has some need to always clean. This activity alleviates stress and anxiety somewhat, but when checking his work he notices the products don’t clean as the instructions say. When he asked me why companies would lie to us I responded by saying they didn’t know. After researching different places and platforms, I found both this channel an “Clean That Up.” Once I had told him about these sources he noticed that when he cleaned almost all of the (not even trying to act like I know what it is) stuff. I thank you so much for bringing a smile to his face again!

My wonderful daughter bought me a multi-functional spin scrubber. It has 8 different brushes for cleaning. It charges like a cell phone. Completely charged in 2 hours and can be used for 3 hours. The head tilts and the handle is extendable. She got it on Amazon and it was reasonably priced. It was a great Mother’s Day gift ❤️ Thank you Melissa. There are very few sites that offer cleaning techniques that focus on people with issues that make cleaning difficult. 🙂

Last year I had to quit work and file for disability, it was a really hard decision to make and I felt so defeated. I won’t know for another 11 months if they approve my disability or not. It’s been really hard having no income and it’s taken a toll on me mentally. I used to clean to help with my anxiety, it made me feel good and seeing a clean house made me feel relaxed and accomplished. Last month, I completely broke down because I couldn’t do what I could previously. I know I have to accept my new normal, but it’s hard. I try to make things easier, but with no income coming in, I don’t think I’ll be able to buy anything new. However, I will try to implement these ideas with what I have and hope things get better. Praying for all those who are dealing with any type of hardship!

I have seen a lot of KZbin channels that have taught me how to make stuff out of packaging. I no longer feel a strong desire to get organizers or containers. I have seen some videos use old packaging as scrubbers. I don't know if that helps, but it certainly keeps me from spending money unnecessarily.

Absolutely love this! I've been on a journey since injuring my knee. A clean house is so important to me, but last year, I was left for 5 months awaiting a surgery unable to walk and had to depend on friends coming over to help clean as I was in a wheelchair. I now injured my other knee, but am still somewhat mobile, so this video comes in perfectly timed for me ❤️👍🏻

I have no suggestions, I just wanted to say thank you for this. I've had eight strokes and four grand mal seizures this year, and I am learning a lot of new things about what is required of me to sort of reclaim my life. This series has made me hopeful, and maybe I can reclaim a clean space that someone else doesn't have to provide for me. That's the thing I've struggled with the most - it's so hard to ask someone who has already helped you to help you with something that you have created yourself. Simply living in a space creates some mess, no matter how hard you try not to do that. Thank you for thinking to do this.

Hello Melissa and CMS Team 🤗, I’m so grateful for this series of videos, they came right on time for me. I am Disabled with chronic pain and limited mobility, multiple severe medical issues and I recently had a major fall. Back in Sept 2023. I currently have my third set of braces on both ankles, both knees and multiple injuries to my back, as well. I just started Physical Therapy for my back and core, this is week 4. It is so hard to do daily tasks I am so overwhelmed and don’t have any help. So I’m trying to do it myself and I am struggling physically and it’s exhausting at times. I have a cart on wheels in my bathroom for bathrooms cleaning supplies under my over the toilet rack nestled to the side next to my toilet. I keep my swifter wet jet in the bathroom behind the door w/swifter pads on cart. In my kitchen, I have some supplies under the sink. But I do have a small cleaning caddy too. But I can’t seem to find a better solution for them. I do have two fairly new vacuums a handheld an upright both for pets. ( even though I don’t own pets currently ). I get a tremendous amount of dust in my apartment. It’s hard to keep up with it all. Not sure what to do… From this video, I do like the idea of the creeper stool, the Maker broom and the spin scrubber w/ extensions. I have high walls and ceilings. *** Please make this a regular segment series of videos with this concept content on cleaning w/limited mobility. *** Thank you so much., Crystal from NYC 😊

Love using a stool on casters, although mine has a height adjustable pneumatic seat so that I can raise or lower myself to manage seated cleaning of higher and lower surfaces. The laundry sorter is great,: but I suggest using two! One is for laundry, of course; but a second one is nice for refuse recyclables! Where I live I am required by community code to rinse and separate all plastic and metal packaging before tossing it. The bags are perfect to separate rinsed plastic bottles, glass jars, and cans into light weight and easily portable packages. Finally, I remove pet hair from carpet or furniture by attaching a pair of worn "latex" kitchen gloves to my Makers Mop by sliding them onto it, then dampening the rubber slightly with water and sweeping it over surfaces to collect the hair! Thanks, M, for so many great tips!

This is such valuable information and content! I’m 65 and have struggled with mobility issues for years. I’m so impressed that you are addressing this issue as a real need for many people. I , unfortunately, have to have one of my daughters come to help me with housework. The floors are the biggest challenge for me. I know it’s after the deadline, but I’ve dreamed of having a Dyson cordless stick vacuum!!! I have two pets. The shedding is miserable and totally unmanageable for me. I have shoulder issues and back problems. Vacuuming is so painful for me. Mopping is out of the question! I look at the vacuum and DREAM!!! If you have any future drawings, I would love to be entered into one for a vacuum. I appreciate you addressing this very real issue for many, many of us! This is great! I use a grabber you can orient the pincher part either sideways or vertical to make it easier to get stuff. I glued a magnet to the middle of the inside head so if I'm getting a can or something, it'll hold heavier without slipping! I also use a kids plastic chair (they've outgrown them) when cleaning the floors. If it rolled I think I wouldn't be able to push the brush I hold as much/as hard since I'd have my legs engaged to keep the cart still. I'm seriously considering the mop you showed. My arthritis, since I was little, hates the weather change but the house still gets dirty. Thank you for making this video! I currently have a mop bucket with a handle that I put all my cleaning stuff in. A rolling cart may help me keep track of my drink! 😂 Thank you💖

I truly appreciate this video so so so much!!! I'm super pregnant and I have definitely reached the limited mobility stage of my pregnancy. So I have been concerned with how I will continue cleaning our home in the until I get to the last few weeks for labor and delivery. My toughest job is keeping our stone shower clean. I'm so happy to learn about the shower cleaner tool, the stool, and the grabber tool. I needed all of those tools from the beginning of my pregnancy! I'm happy to know that I can continue to deep clean as needed even with limited mobility due to your super great and educational video of awesome tools out there to help. God bless and I love your channel!

Thank you for the video! Not only do I suffer from autoimmune, limited mobility, and pain issues; I also have extreme fatigue. Thus, keeping work smart is always a plus! I currently use a rolling cart for cleaning supplies. This saves on trips back and forth to the laundry room, and it helps my family to know where the cleaning supplies are so they help clean as needed. While I do not use your specific mop (sorry), I use a similar model in two styles. I have a pole style that uses both dry or wet cloths, which I use to dust up high, clean walls, etc. Thank you for trying the rotating tool with various heads. I have been debating whether or not to purchase one, but I, too, have been skeptical. I love the step stool on wheels idea! Some questions: 1 ) I have high ceilings with lots of detailed wood. Suggestions on a product to dust the doors with? The dry mop does not get into the details. 2.) I have a spa tub and I cannot bend over to get into the bottom of the deep tub or on the marble behind the tub. Or, in the jet areas. Do you believe the various tool heads and the extensions would work for the spa tub? Thanks again!

I've been waiting for this video since you announced it last week Melissa. Thank you for this content. Something I'd like to share about people with limited mobility, at least my experience, is for others to not be afraid afraid or embarrassed to both ask AND offer help if you can, even if something seemingly small. Before having mobility issues I always said I wouldn't like anyone helping me (I thought that would be embarrassing.) But once I started experiencing mobility limitations, many times I've wished people would offer help. Sometimes it's not even the physical help, it's the mental part of it. For example, when having to cross a busy street with my crutches, I wished the people that were passing me by would have offered to accompany me the stretch of the crossroad. Of course they couldn't have walked it for me, but it would have been lovely if they could have walked it WITH me ❤️. No one ever did, and that stuck with me a lot. I still have some mobility issues but now they are different. What would be helpful right now would be to have that cleaning rolling 🛒 cart, it would be lovely 💕. Have a great week everyone.

The powered extendable scrubber is a dream come true. I love to clean and have even thought of starting my own cleaning business, but some recent back and nerve issues have taken a toll on me. I saw this on Amazon ordered and next day was loving this thing. Scrubbing the bathtub was the biggest help. My daughter kept hearing me praise it and wanted one to. Silly Mother's day gift but she is in love with it, also commented that she loved doing base board with it. I hadn't even thought about that. Thanks for doing a series on this, cleaning has been one of the biggest frustrations for me. I'm house proud I guess and stressing when you can't do the work like you used to.

I love the cleaning ghost ideas, I have tried my own ghost ideas to help me clean above my head and I can stay stable as a disabled person on solid ground! The spray bottle is something I will invest in for sure as well as the laundry cart idea. I have a single one but three would be enough better, after separating all the laundry for my family, I usually have to put it all on the floor then I have to bend to pick them up and it becomes a hardship. Thanks Melissa for everything you do in making myself simpler with all the ideas you post! I still use the many cleaning recipes for each room in the house as well as the many liquid hand soaps ideas, that started with the Covid-19 pandemic! Always, a great experiment with each new idea 💡! 👍🎉

For anyone who uses a laundromat or has to take laundry up & down stairs, I HIGHLY recommend investing in a stair climbing laundry basket! I wouldn’t be able to do laundry by myself without one. I need one of those. I have have stairs and can't take anything up and down really because I have my cane in one hand and holding onto the railing with the other. I use cross body straps for anything I can strap to my body going up and down. Come to think of it, I probably couldn't handle even a climbing basket unless it's pretty light still.

As a wheelchair user, your mop makes cleaning so much easier. I forgot about the "ghost" thing, though - thanks for the reminder on that! I also have an electric scrubber that I use to make cleaning the tub easier. I used to have that 3-piece laundry sorter but there's not enough room in the new condo, so I've swapped that out for a large hamper that is also on wheels. I use my grabber (which also has a handy magnet on the end of the handle) to get those things I can't reach at the bottom of the hamper. Life is so much easier with these tools.

I’ll be 74 in September. I don’t know what happened, but it just seemed like one day I woke up, and had limited mobility. I don’t give up easily, and I wanted to continue taking care of my house. So I just happened to be on You Tube and ran across this video, and I must say, this video has been a blessing and a lifesaver for me. As soon as I saw the video, I checked the amount of money that I had with my limited income against the bills that I owed. So I decided to go for it and purchase a rolling cart, a an extendable pole with different cleaning tools and another extended pole with different cleaning tools to clean the outside of a car, but I’m not gonna use it for car cleaning. My front porch is filthy with unbelievable dirt and cobwebs, and I can’t afford to get it cleaned all the time by someone else. The car cleaning kit with extendable pole is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I can hardly wait to get my front porch cleaned. The part that is so dirty is the ceiling and the top part on the side. It’s all painted white. Plus, I bought a magnet with an extended pole and a handheld thing that holds a one-sided razor. Now the glass top on my stove looks spotless. And also purchased a cordless electric spin scrubber for the kitchen sink and lavatories. What a timesaver! I just can’t thank you enough for all these suggestions. For months now, I have sat in my easy char watching TV and becoming more depressed with each day, because I couldn’t figure out how to clean a lot of areas in my house. You have just given me a new lease on life, and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.
