Vac was new in 2016. Only thing I wish I could make look like new is the hose. I've put our (removable) showerhead on jet to try to blast out the dirt, watching as the water spirals down. However I have to hold the showerhead with one hand, hold the hose in my other, and try to use a foot to pull down the hose so the gaps open up to get more dirt out. There needs to be some type of invention made to help stretch the hose for easier cleaning. I've soaked ours in the tub 3 times for deep cleaning since 2016. *And Bissel no longer has the hepa filter we need in production.

@@zacharysnyder5325 I checked the company's website of the vacuum brand we use, to see if they sold them. I didn't see them being sold, but I did ask if they were just out of stock, or no longer sold. They said the filter for our model was stopped in production.

Hey Brandon I was wondering if you ever considered/have a wet/dry shop vac for those very nasty areas or somewhat wet messes. If you do what one do you like/recommend
@MollyT119 Жыл бұрын
My corded vacuum is just a basic bagless Dirt Devil (close to 10 years old, and cost about $50) and it runs great because I do a deep clean like this a few times a year. I do the same with my much more expensive cordless vacuum too, and you really notice the difference in the performance/suction. Maintenance is HUGE in keeping vacuums running at their best!

I used to work in an office that shared space with a maintenance building and my office wondered why they were buying vacuums once a year because they were “broken” All it took was cleaning filters and wiping it down and all of sudden they lasted for years

new viewer here! I service and repair vacuum cleaners, I have been doing it for almost 15 years. this is a very accurate video, however I want to give you and others a few tips from someone who has been doing this a long time. first. you can wash the base plate and the front wheels just fine it will not hurt them but the brush roller you are right about, just wipe it down with a damp cloth. one more tip, when your shopping for a vacuum cleaner bagged vacuum cleaners are generally easier to clean and maintain because all the dirt and dust goes in the bag and you just throw it out and dont have to clean a lot up after it plus you dont have to empty it as often, wait for filters to dry or clean it as much. plus the bag keeps 90-95% of the dust out of the motor which helps it last longer. great video! you explained everything just about how I would explain it to people 🙂

I change them and then wash the old, dirty ones, as you have advised. I have to do this about every 3 months because I have pets.

Another tip I have is if you can't get rid of all of the bad smells or just want the vacuum to have a really good smell to it, you can vacuum up some laundry beads and it makes the vacuum smell great! Cleaning it out is super important to make sure it lasts, I have several machines that are 20 or 30 years old and still work great, in fact I use a Fantom Fury from 1998 as my regular vacuum!

Great tips! I do deep clean my vacuum bc that musty smell is so gross. I used to feel nauseous at school when the janitor would vacuum bc of the dirty smell left in the air. I never thought about using my dryer vent brush to clean the hose & other difficult spots. Thanks! BTW, I like to put some essential oil on a cotton ball & add that to the vacuum so it’s really fresh smelling when I clean. New subscriber here!

I recommend quality bagged vacuums especially because of how excessively dirty it is to clean a bagless vacuum (even dysons have this issue, i repaired many of them). Yeah there is a recurring cost with buying bags but the cleanup will be easier and with HEPA bags and filters, they usually leak less air which reduces the bad smell. The best overall vacuums will be bagged ones. Having a shop style vacuum with a bag and filter installed is very useful for cleaning other vacuums like the one shown in the video and for sucking up all kinds of crap that regular vacuums don't fare well with.

Haha - yes - taking a picture before dismantling! I now have a Dyson cordless. Soooo easy to dismantle (and re-mantle) for cleaning! The only thing that bugs me is being unable to immerse everything that needs cleaned out. I end up putting a microfiber cloth over various kitchen implements to get into crevices - lol! An air hose would be great, but I don't have one. Seeing this video, though, I'll bet I could spray some all purpose cleaner on a cloth to do better than a 'just damp' cloth.

Hold up.. I _have_ one of those 'vent' cleaners (marketed as radiator cleaners over here)... Can't believe I didnt think of cleaning my vacuum hose with that... :) ('Cause I have tricks for cleaning anything and everything else). Very good instructional video, man. You'd be surprised how many people throw away their vacuum cleaner because they simply don't clean the filters. I can find 2-3 vacuum cleaners every week within 500 meters (not half a mile) from my home. And 90% of them are perfectly fine - just dirty. (Literally 90%. And the other 10% are broken in such an obvious way, I don't even bother to try em) A simple way to see it: How well would YOU breathe through a pillow? It's hard, right? Clean the filters - there's always 2 (1 before the motor, 1 by the exhaust); sometimes 3 (hepa filter). If you only found 1, look harder :) *There are exceptions, but those are only on expensive vacuum cleaners (like Henry, the one with the eyes on it); most likely - yours has 2 or 3. **And always clean your cleaning utensils. (Some mops can be machine washed; microfiber towels / viscose towels can be machine washed; spunges can be made wet and put in the microwave for 30 sec to kill germs. Anyways - thanks for all the advice. I personally know a lot of this stuff already (had part time cleaning jobs for about 18 years), but I know most people don't.

Note: That is not a "canister" vacuum. It is a bagless upright vacuum. Upright vacuums usually have only one motor with the handle sticking upright from the rotating brush head. Canister vacuums have a motor in a wheeled body pulled by a hose with a power nozzle (rotating brush) or attachment tools on the other end of the hose. The hose is usually electrified to power the rotating brushes in the power nozzle (aka power head)
@CordlessUprightHetty5 ай бұрын
No. It is not. I called those vacuum that pulled by the hose is cylinder vacuum cos my country is a former British country. He meant the dust container that he called it canister. The bagless upright or cylinder vacuum have a dust canister

It is another name for bagless vacuum. Why not follow like what did UK and all these former British countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong called all these vacuum that pulled by the hose cylinder
@pace11955 ай бұрын
@@CordlessUprightHetty Because I live in America, and we don't do anything the rest of the world does. I don't know when other countries started calling the two motor vacuums with a hose "cylinder" vacuums, but those have always been called "canister" vacuums on this continent. I know the presenter in the video called it a canister vacuum after the clear plastic bin the dirt goes into. He seems to be American, and he is wrong here. Originally, to differentiate themselves, they were called "bagless" vacuums because every previous upright vacuum had a paper bag to collect the dirt before the bagless vacuums came into existence. I know most of those bagless vacuums are manufactured in places like Malaysia and China, but they are marketed here as Upright Vacuums (with a bag), Bagless Vacuums (with an open and dirty clear plastic bin), and Canister Vacuums (two motor system with a power nozzle/head and canister (usually bagged) with an electric hose in between.

Just take out your vacuum right now and take a whiff inside that dust bag or canister area - and if you can't smell anything, unless you have a perfectly clean vacuum like our host just showed us - you have become immune to that aroma, but like those Febreeze commercials show, your guests can smell what seems normal to the homeowners.

I used my bathtub to soak all the removable parts. It took 2 soaks but I didn't use any soap to soak, just vinegar. I always hate cleaning the hose because I don't have anything long enough to scrub down into it, and it takes 3-4 days for it to fully dry. *Pro Tip: never buy just 1 Hepa filter, they last longer than you think, and you never know when the filter will stop being in production. Our vac model was brand new from 2016 and now in 2023 I couldn't find any hepa filters for it. The vacuum is outliving how long the company decided to continue making filters for it. 🤷♀️
