Great information! I'm at the point in my life where retirement from my manufacturing job is near an end, (2 years away) I've been into art, drawing and sculptures on and off through my life but never anything serious. I've done a mural (yes, just one LOL) and it's in my home gym. However, there's a legal wall in my state of Maine in Portland. I have great ideas but no real knowledge of paint and supplies most used for this type art work. So, videos like this are very helpful and your work is beyond inspiring. I'll retire soon but that's only a new beginning for me. Thanks for the info and inspiration.

Have you experienced any issues with increased degradation to the wall? Does it lock in moisture and create bubbling or anything like that? By the way, thanks for the video!
@iamdetour2 жыл бұрын
Not much at this point. Most of the walls i coated with this has been recent so i havent observed any moisture damage. the most recent wall had valves for breathing that were built in the structure so i though that was interesting. the cover photo is a mural that was on a pretty bad wall that need repair anyway. theres a think layer of paint that built up over the decades so it crumbling. lol the coating just keeps it safe from graffiti at the moment until they do the necessary repairs

Do you think putting the Mural Shield with a different product, like the Vandlguard-non sacrificial, would be ok?

What would you recommend to use as a non-sacrificial coat, something that stays, for UV protection? (For my mural graffiti is not an issue- sunlight is)

I love the tips for outside clear coating but is there a difference for inside coating?
@iamdetour2 жыл бұрын
For indoor murals polycrylic or a clear coat for flooring is best. because you want to protect it from furniture and people scuffing it up more than UV lights and weather. i did a video about this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r32keIR-jLF5isU

Thanks so much! So helpful. So eliding this was posted a year after the Carthage video does this kind of replace that option. Or would you still use the varathane for interior murals? I did a mural in a high traffic area of a restaurant and am going in for the third time to touch up.

Glad it was helpful! definitely varathane for interior murals because im more worried about the scuffing from the high traffic more than tagging

Hello, I have two outdoor murals on plaster wall that needs anti-graffiti protection in Arizona. Do you have any product recommendations? Thank you
@aliciaterry91053 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this helpful video! I'm working on a proposal for a mural now and wondering a couple things - do you have an estimate on how many square feet one gallon of the Sherwin Williams anti-graffiti coating will cover? And does it need multiple coats like you suggested with the Vandlguard or is it something you lay on thick and only need one coat of? Thanks again!
@aliciaterry91053 жыл бұрын
Oh! Also are both of these considered Sacrificial or non-Sacrificial? Thank you!!
@iamdetour3 жыл бұрын
The sherman williams covers a good amount for a gallon but it just depends on the texture of the wall. smooth serfaces require less of the material. the vandalgaurd is great but does require multiple coats.

I'm wondering how you prime a cinderblock wall? It's growing moss, so it needs a pressure wash first. The moss is growing through the grout lines between the cinderblock - does it need regrouting, or can I just prime the hell out of it? THANKS!!!
@iamdetour3 жыл бұрын
Definitely pressure wash the wall.
@finight92 жыл бұрын
After you pressure wash you need to use TSP trisodium phosphate, and rinse and maybe even risnse and repeat a second or third time... but TSP is very toxic very caustic and very dangerous to eyes throat lungs and skin so you would need to be wearing the appropriate amount of protective equipment (maybe even a full body suit) I can not stress that enough!!! you could be injured greatly by TSP if not careful

after tsp rinse dries, a coat or two of kills would be applied immediately

You should show some more respect to graff writers who paved the way for the type of mural work done now. Like it's one thing to want to preserve your work, but graff writers were there first and a lot of muralist will go over historic walls with no regards to the local scene
@iamdetour Жыл бұрын
I don’t think you researched me at all. I personally rock with SJK171 and Mike 171. Original wall writers who help start all of this. And if you want them to be respected like you say, then you would have bought their amazing book, support their Documentary film, and advocate for them to be in museums like I did and still do. I rock with the local crews out here everyday. And, half the people learning from these vids are graff writers because they also do legal work that they want preserved as well. So please don’t lump me in with “ a lot of muralist” and generalize because I’m all for graff community and preserving one’s work when desired.
@fpszara Жыл бұрын
@@iamdetour that's cool yo Thx for correcting me. To be fair tho i did research you and i couldn't find any letters you painted or graffiti pieces etc. And I'm in the local scene and i don't know those people tbh.
