I realize that this is an old video but today I'm seeing this for the first time. I have to say that of all the tutorials that i have watched of other sewists, you are the one i go to most. Your teaching style is very clear and consistent. I can follow you easily and I trust your advice. Thank you for being you❤.

I am a first time viewer. I think you are nuts to purchase that expensive plain pouch when you have great ability in your self. I went to Stoney Clover Lane and looked at "stuff" and found the bag you purchased and thankful I don't share your desire for their "stuff". Think of all the cool fabric, vinyl, zippers and pul you could buy if only. Girl, your pouches are soooo much more desirable. Good video and I will be referring back to it at a later date to make my own too. Thanks for the clarity of your work.

Jess have you tried adding your binding to the back of the bag first then folding it to the front and then top stitching. It may work
@epe7462 жыл бұрын
Hello from neighboring Jacksonville! Jess, mine was a complete disaster! 🥵 Not at all your fault, your instructions are great. If you're in the mood for a laugh, here's what went wrong: I cheaped-out and bought my clear vinyl from Joann's, just to give this project a try. I also bought 3 zippers, and some pretty fabric. (Singer fat quarter bundle). I was so excited I was going to make three bags. I printed your templates, thanks Jess, they are great! I took out the vinyl and right away noticed a rather strong odor to it. I began to cut, piece of cake, but next thing you know, my throat hurts, my eyes itch, my nose starts to run, what the... It appears that I was having an allergic reaction to the vinyl. so quicky I took the cut pieces to the sink and proceeded to wash them with anti-bacterial soap, and at this moment my hands started to itch, and it moved up my arms. So I dried the pieces and put them away. My throat was still hurting. So I figured, I'll get started with the top of the bag and I'll try the vinyl again tomorrow. Well, I had never sewed a zipper in my life, but I managed to make the end pieces, attach them and proceed to baste the first piece of fabric to it. My zipper says polyester and I had no idea it would be so hard to attach. As I removed the clips, the polyester zipper went all over the place and my seam was not at all straight.😡 Oh well, it's just basting, right? Wrong! the next seam did not go any better. Attaching the back top pieces of fabric went even worse. 😭 I gave up. my eyes are still irritated and hurt, so I ended up throwing my whole project away, and the rest of the Vinyl, but I tried sewing a little of it with some bias tape with the tissue paper under, and that part worked like a charm. Next time I want a Vynil pouch, I will go to Target and pay $5 for one already made, or a dozen for $15 on Amazon. Needless to say, I will not be sewing clear vinyl ever again! I love all your tutorials. I made several tote bags with your video. I'm working my way up from easiest to more advanced. But I'll stick to fabric for now. Going to take some Benadryl, and hit the sack,

I made one large and one small so far. Soooo fun!! I had some trouble with the binding in a couple places. The back would slip out of place and it wouldn't catch. I'm thinking perhaps some double sided tape to hold the bottom binding edge before top stitching. Such a great pattern! I'll be making more for sure

I use Teflon sheets for heat press on the bed of my machine. For me it works better than tissue. I use painters tape or you can use washi tape to stock it on. It can be cut down to any size you want. I use it also when adhering interfacing so my iron doesn’t get stiff on it. You can get them on Amazon in multi packs for somewhere around $6

If you don’t want to use PUL You can cut fabric strips on the bias to make your binding. It will be stretchy. Also on those curves you can sew at a Scant 1/4” so you can wrap your binding.

I’ve mad quit a few of these. What I love using for binding is fold over elastic, like what is used for headbands/hair ties. I use the 1in width & it works so good! It’s so easy to do.

Just viewing this video now, came across it by searching vinyl pouch bags. I enjoy your videos, including this one, however, I found in my opinion lining isn't necessary, I don't mind seeing the backside of vinyl. I also found the binding is a bit annoying, so I finished the bag using French seams. it's not easy when working with vinyl, just make sure you have a heat gun or blow dryer on hand. Thanks for your tutorials

Love this tutorial and can't wait to make one! Could you add D-rings and a cross body strap to make this a stadium bag? If so, would to make the zipper shorter and put the D-ring on the top? I may try it out! Any thoughts on that?

Hi Jess, ione option could be to tack the seam at the zipper down with double sided tape in order to keep it in place and prevent it from shifting and then attach the lining with your double sided tape. Then you can topstitch it ones. Just a suggestion. Katerina

Hi Jess, I’m always excited on Monday and Thursday to see what will be posted. I’ve been waiting not so patiently for this pouch. You did not disappoint! Btw, I purchased the Juki TL2010Q a couple of weeks ago. I was having a problem with thread bunching underneath when I began stitching and thought it was a tension problem. I tried everything to no avail. After watching this video, it may be that I need to place a starter fabric when I begin. You give so many helpful tips! I’m trying it first thing this MORNING. I’m so grateful to have this new machine and now I can sew bags like the BIG DOGS! 🙏🏽

For method #2, to help flatten the vinyl fold, could you use double-sided tape? In other words, put tape on both sides of the seam allowance - below (next to itself) as well as above (next to the cotton, as you showed). Or would two layers of tape be too much for the needle to go through? (28:23)
@OklaRoots3 жыл бұрын
You can definitely do that! Just make sure to use tape that doesn't gum up your needle (or use a really strong needle)
