Here is a quick peek of how we turn over our garden beds between seasons, following a mostly "no till" or "no dig" practice. We leave the roots in place to feed the soil, worms, and microorganisms, and avoiding tilling to reduce disruption of the established complex living networks within the soil.
This video was made and uploaded to support a detailed blog article on the subject, found here: homesteadandchill.com/prepare...
Come learn how to prepare a new or established garden bed for planting. We'll talk about removing old plants, no-till gardening, when and how to amend soil, fertilizer selection, compost, mulch, planting tips & more! It also includes info on prepping a bed for winter, and using cover crops.

Thank you for providing such valuable information in a time when it is most needed. I was hoping you could answer a question about mulch and cover crops. It stems from a bit of confusion between liquid nutrients and organic decomposition. Is there any benefit to reducing the use of green mulches, perhaps switching for brown during flowering in terms of nitrogen mineralization? In the exact same light, should cover crops be maintained mostly during vegetative or does it actually matter at all when going full organic no till? Thank you again!

Hey there! What is the bagged material you are adding to the holes the plants are going in? Is that mycorrhizae?
