Clearing land for our Greenhouse Build + Picking Cloudberries & Making homemade Jam!

Homestead chores never stop. We're working hard to knock out our "to do" list before winter hits. One of the things we need to get done is clear a spot for our future greenhouse build. This means cutting up a bunch of downed trees & hauling them away for firewood. We plan to lay the foundation for the greenhouse this summer so that we can continue to work on the greenhouse build even after the 1st snowfall. And HOPEFULLY by spring 2024, we can plant our first garden!
With hard work comes a little play right? So the boys & I are picking cloudberries down by the pond & making homemade cloudberry jam!
CLOUDBERRY JAM:
Ingredients:
500g fresh cloudberries or "bakeapples" as some say
125g sugar
¼ cup (50g ) water
Instructions:
1. Place berries into a heavy pan; heat gently until juice starts to flow.
2. Add sugar and water, bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
3. Cook, stirring frequently until thickened (8-10) minutes
4. Pour into hot sterilized jars, leaving ¼ inch head space; wipe jar rims thoroughly.
5. Seal and process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes or store in refrigerator for up to 3 months. Enjoy!

Out of all the projects we've done and still have to do, the greenhouse build is something I'm really looking forward to! But first, we have to make space for it. The boys swimming in their own backyard pond is such a treat, after doing logging work. Picking berries is such a nice way to learn that Mother Earth has lots to offer and we should be grateful for all that she does… in abundance. Oh my goodness guys! We have had a horrible traumatic time of loss of my FIL this week in our family but your video made me smile for the first time in a week. Hi Deborah! My neck issue has not returned since I completed about 6 wks of physical therapy. Praying it stays that way. And no, the chickens always stay close to their coop & even put themselves to bed each night. All we have to do is go out and lock up the coop.☺️

Perfect timing. You always know when I'm about to go into withdrawals from seeing my favorite Watson family. ❤ Bradley and Gunner had no idea what to think when the chickens come flying over. They looked at you like, "ummm Mom it's raining chickens". 🤣 I used to have to help my Mom clipped their wings so they wouldn't fly up and roost in trees. Uhhh, I hated that job. Girl, those cloud berries made some of the prettiest jam I've ever seen !! My favorite would have to blackberry jam. You have to fight the ticks, chiggers and snakes, but it's worth it. Ya'll are such a hard working family that are raising two handsome boys and instilling in them a strong work ethic as well as teaching them with work comes rewards. ❤ My favorite part of this video was P praying. if you are building your greenhouse just below the solar panels you might want to consider digging it into the hillside on the upper end. mine is built into the hillside and I lined up 27 55 gal plastic barrels painted black and filled with water and antifreese solution. What that does is soak up heat during the day and releases the heat during the night into the greenhouse. if you dig the barrels down a bit into the dirt you can put plywood or planks on the to to give you potting benches. what you are also doing is bringing some earth temp. although your not very deep.the more you could dig the whole greenhouse into the ground, the more earth heat you can get in the greenhouse from the earth. I would be happy to answer any questions

I haven't seen any cloud berries on our place yet, just blueberries. I'm hoping to beat the bears this year and harvest some, last year I missed them. You guys are kicking butt on getting stuff done. Home Free Alaska….here we go! Favorite jam: raspberry for me, blackberry for the hubby. I make it all. My weirdest jam is low sugar pineapple. But, I use it a bit differently. I water bath can it like normal. Then when we want pineapple upside down cake, I’m ready. Cast iron skillet, dab of butter, cherries, 1 pint jar jam, cake mix, bake. Take care all! Your homestead is great!

Never heard of cloudberries but I bet the boys are living there best life, that some good jam, Bradley and Gunter are some smart dogs, do you have to wait until you are 18 to learn how to drive in Alaska my husband and his brothers drove at 7 years old and how to drive a tracker also on that farm i guess there dad thought what could they hit , when my daughter went for a visit she learned to drive a traffic at 10 years old , she loved the country life my son not so much. what are you growing in your greenhouse. ?????

Hello, my dear hearts!!! No doubt about it, you do have a lot of work. But seeing how much you all enjoy getting things done, really makes me smile. Joe is in his happy place, always doing something, and his girl Tina, next to him. Making sure your family is well. My two boys, Parker and Kellen, you two are growing so much! I know Mom and Dad are so proud of you, I am too!!! I hope and pray that Kellen stays with you. Has he mentioned if he wants to stay with you forever? Hello Raquel! I don’t know Kellen’s desire yet because I don’t ask him. I just don’t want to put that pressure on him especially because at 7 yrs old, how do you choose? It’s going to be very difficult for him when the time comes no matter what decision is made for him. We’re just lovin’ on him as much as we can!❤️❤️

Tina, in the early 2000s I bought a pair of Xtratufs in Petersburg when they were still made in the USA. I see that you’re wearing them and wondering if you have trouble pulling them off. I have a terrible problem getting them off and I don’t have anyone to help me. Such a struggle. I live in New Jersey and really don’t wear them much anymore but I really treasure them.

If you like crispy hash browns, grate your potatoes in a cheese grater (medium grate), soak them in water and rinse thoroughly, cook them in a hot pan with butter and oil and flatten them. Let them crisp up and flip over. They are so delicious, I just found this method myself and thought i would share. God bless your family!

Wow, you two make me tired just watching yall work on the woodshed. We set our solar panel poles today, 17 bags of Cement! Whew, we're getting too old for this. Loved the tune you picked while you were working on the woodshed! ❤
