Our solar at the cabin is suffering from too much shade from problem trees. In today’s video, I demonstrate how to cut down tough trees. Later in the video, we go, exploring a mysterious place in the woods. join us for the adventure at the off grid cabin.

Holy cow that is a s*** ton of wood ticks at one time! Tammy on had one tick this year but I've had quite a few on me. I told her that they must not like the White Claw that she drinks but they must like my Rum and Pepsi. Lol 😂 We'd like to wish you a Happy Father's Day Karl and hope that Margaret feels better soon. Have a great week brother. Todd from da U.P.

Maine's state motto is "A Bug's Vacationland". Mosquitos and black flies seem to be in season for months. I didn't know how bad ticks were here until I began walking my puppy on the dirt backroads. I found a couple a day right up to the first snow fall. No me gusta los tickos as we would say in the old pais.

I have heard that the ticks in Maine were so bad that they were spreading disease among all of the moose. I was wondering when I was filming this, how bad the bugs were on your side of the country. Hopefully things ease up soon but I think the bugs are going to be around until it starts to dry up a little bit. Have an awesome weekend!!

Hi Karl and Margaret!! Happy Father's Day! When I lived in Minnesota (in the city), I never saw a flea or a tick on my dogs. Shortly after moving to Florida though, I had such a tick problem at one time. I hate those little critters with a passion! I got to be quite an expert tick plucker and squisher. Thankfully, I haven't had the problem in recent years and -- knock on wood, fingers crossed, and whatever else can be done-- I won't be bothered with them again! Take care now!

Thank you so much Deb!! I am on board with you. I can’t stand those little rascals. I would’ve never guessed Florida would have so many ticks. I guess I always think of it as a Northern thing. Be sure to tell William happy Father’s Day from us, we hope you have a great weekend as well.

Hey Karl hope you had a great Father’s Day. Looks like some wood work ahead of you 😅 The flower is called a Blue Flag Iris or Northern Iris. It’s a perennial native to Wisconsin. The roots have been and can be used as medicine. What kind I have no idea yet. Stay cool out there it’s going to be a hot few days ahead of us.

Hey Karl, that flower definitely looks to be in the IRIS family. Maybe Louisiana Iris? Or perhaps some other local iris type. Happy Father’s Day! Greetings from Perth, West Australia. Cheers, Frank.

Not sure of the type, but that's an Iris, I have those in our KOI pond. Very interesting to come across those open spots in the woods, yarding area might make good sense. That is lots of ticks. Happy Father's Day Karl.

Nice video bud. We was up to camp last weekend and the mosquitoes were bad and we had a few ticks but not like you had. That clearing i couldn’t see how it be a yarding place for deer in the winter seems like there be a ton of snow for them vs in the low lands where there’s pine and cedar. Great job on the trees. I will admit I can’t cut them down bad experience yrs ago so I’m on the “afraid side” of cutting one down. Happy Father’s Day to you!!

Hey Karl. Good vid. Hope I can get to solar someday. That would be awesome. Geez those ticks are nasty. I put large dog flea and tick collars on my muck boots just strapped around the ankles and it seems to really work well. Cheap option for tick control. I believe your flower is a water iris. I have them on my land down by the river. Happy Father’s Day! Ranger Reno

Thanks for the info Ranger Reno!! The flea tick collars makes perfect sense. The most ticks I’ve had on me prior to this year has been three per day. I was shocked to see how many ticks I had in the short time that I was cutting trees. Hopefully it stops raining before the winter arrives, these bugs are driving me nuts. Have an awesome week brother.

I'm hedging my bet that the property was a farm field, not sure when it could have been cleared out but I'm sure the DNR would have left wind rows. At least they do in MN. Either way that's a sweet looking spot!

@karlsoffthegrid1378 21 күн бұрын
It very well could’ve been a farmers field, I looked around to see if I could find any old foundations of buildings, but I found none. I’m going to see if the local DNR office knows anything about it. I’ll keep you posted in the future. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, I hope you have an awesome week.

It definitely would’ve not been a good thing for either parties involved. So here’s a little behind-the-scenes info,the guys who Service the UTV were concerned that I was driving like a grandpa too much (they are probably right). I put that little segment in there to prove to them that I do blow the carbon out of the engine once in a while. The ideal spot to open it up would be in an area with wide open fields, unfortunately everything up here is woods. Have an awesome week.
