Hello all:) I was having issues with my pH and I was trying to get it down using General Hydroponics pH down and it still was not working. I would test my pH and it was up and down all day long and the pH was swinging high and low! I know the swings I was having would end up killing my fish so I needed to find out why it was doing that. I looked into it and found out that algae blooms can make pH go up and down like it was so I needed to get rid of the algae so I can control my pH. This is how I got rid of the algae and it worked great! Not only that, it was CHEAP!
Water is looking great now and my pH is just right so my plants are growing like crazy!

What a great idea. I hooked up a pot under my skimmer return hose and in a day and a half my pea soup cleared up totally. Crystal clear water now. Thanks for the great tip👍

Thank you so much for the inexpensive algae fix. I am a new tank/fish keeper and seems I am always running out to Walmart for something for this tank. I have a 20 gallon and 1 Goldfish that is now about 6 inches long, and 1 sucker fish about the same size. As for this algae, I believe I got it from petco’s plants I purchased. I’ve never had algae before. Anyways, thank you for the tip and I am putting it to use. JO

That's a great idea . I might make something like that for my stock tank . I used a UV sterilizer on my grow out system and 2 days later no more green water .

Awesome:) Is your UV inline with the PVC? What UV light do you have?

Does the UV sterillizer will also kill benefical bacterias?

And there it could kill some but the The bacteria is mostly colonized in substrate.

Did you add anything chemical or organic wise to help remove the alge from the sides and bottom? Or did you just use the filter you made with the polyester and it caught it all? This is a great idea, thanks for sharing! Yall gro dat!!

Hey hey:) Well, I did not use anything chemical to clear up algae. I just use this pillow stuffing to remove algae from the water column. That is the algae you really want to remove for the most part because it eats up most nutrients but the stuff growing on the side walls does not affect it that much. In the beginning of this video I think it was like March 16 that my tanks were exposed to the sun and that is why I got the huge algae bloom in the water column. In the video I actually covered up the tanks just before I added the bucket with the pillow stuffing. After a week or so the algae just died off from not getting enough sun.

@@homefarmideas that's for responding. I just started a NFT run system and the alge exploded one day. I was like damm. I already pu the bucket with the pillow materials inside. Going to see what happens! Thanks again for taking the time to respond!

Its filter floss. Thats notjing new but doesnt stop green watee. You need a UV, iv had freshwater, ponds and reef tanks. This only traps waster to polish water but does not stop green water at all

The polyester does not work. What it worked for you may be the plants.

i know this is old, but anybody having problems after 3 months of algae and solid green i recently cleared a 150 gallon small pond with a 20 dollar cheapo uv light from amazon i threw it into my filter , it could just be set into the bucket thats shown in the video with or without the filter material. 5 days later my solid green pond is crystal clear

Would painting your drums help?

Yes but I would rather not paint it because it is just messy and it has a hard time sticking to the IBC plastic. I am going to be building something around my fish tank and sump tank so this does not happen in the future:) Good idea my friend!

6.7 ph is not an ideal ph for goldfish
@homefarmideas
@homefarmideas 5 жыл бұрын
You’re right but 6.7 PH is ideal for all three aspects of Aquaponics. The fish, the bacteria, and the plants. All three of these things are important to me and all three of them have the same importance. It’s not just about the fish. It’s about the relationship between the fish, bacteria, and the plants. 6.7 is ideal for all three of these things i’ve mentioned.

I have. If you want to learn something then hang out but if you know it all maybe go somewhere else? If your pH is below 6.0 then you will have trouble converting ammonia into nitrites and nitrites into nitrates. 6.7 is not the best place for the bacteria but any higher and your plant growth will suffer. Bacteria and fish prefer the higher pH ranges but your plants prefer the lower pH ranges. With aquaponics you need to find a pH range that will work for all three. Most people like to keep it at 6.5 but I like to keep mine at 6.7 because I think I get the most nutrient uptake for my plants at that pH. If you’re not willing to look up what I’m talking about then you’re not here to learn or to be friendly, you’re just here to cause a problem and I delete people like that. I’m hoping I miss reading your text, seems like a lot of sarcasm. Look up what I’m saying or tell me where I’m wrong.
