As time goes by and life gets busier and busier sometimes it becomes too easy to forget about cleanup. Some of the trails in today's videos don't get maintained ever....that is until today. Watch as I try to navigate down some trails for the very first time with a three point hitch landscape rake on the back of my tractor in hopes of bringing the trails back to good condition. With the hydraulic control of the landscape rake angle, things are pretty comfy from the seat of my tractor.

Hi Sandy, I have enjoyed tiur videos for a couple of years from a place far away North; I live in North Pole Alaska, a few miles east of Fairbanks, AK, I have a small farm and also love to use my tractor to get things done, We have snow already so leaves are not a problem here. Have a great seasonal transition and i will look forward to seeing more sawmill adventures. I recently won a bid at a local auction for a Woodland Mills bandsaw mill but have not used it yet until next spring. Best wishes to you. Dave in Northern Alaska

It's funny that you brought up the comment of needing to widen some of your trails, because that was my first thought. We both would rather go around a tree that is right in the way, rather than cutting it down to make the trail so much nicer!! Considering we both know that those narrow spots slow us down every single time we go through those bottlenecks!! Every time you pull a log, grade the trail, blow snow, or even just drive down the trail, we have to always watch out for these odd ball trees that are really a pain, instead of grabbing the Husqvarna, and making life easier!!
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy 7 ай бұрын
Hey there Tim, yeah for sure. The trouble I find is cutting down the tree is the easy part for me but it's the removal of the stump that takes time since I have to go hookup the stump grinder and travel back to the location. The other challenge I have is I don't like to waste the lumber so I try not to let the log sit on the ground for too long after I cut it.

Hi Sandy. I picked up my landscape rake this past spring. I was working on landscaping my front yard when I notice my box blade not being effective when picking up small sticks and debris when I was finishing it off. Picked up the landscape rake from princess auto and it was night and day for efficiency. I continuously use it for debris removal and light surface landscaping. I hope to use it on my trails also as I was constantly picking up piles of leaves in my box blade last year while attempting to smooth it.

The hydraulic adjustments would be nice for my landscape rake,but what I really wish I had was a set of leveling wheels like you have. On a side note,if you haven't already done it,you better clean up all of the scrap wood at the sawmill before it turns into an unmovable block of wood,snow,and ice.
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy 7 ай бұрын
Yeah those wheels are handy. Only downside is not being able to turn the rake around 180's degrees without taking them off. You're right about that scrap pile. I secretly want the snow to hit so the chore disappears haha
@quarlow1215
@quarlow1215 7 ай бұрын
Sandy, I dont know if its recommended to push backwards with the rake. Spring steel really only likes to go one way. You did it pretty lightly so no issue. I did this with a root rake when I was on the cattle ranch. The boss seen me do it and he walked over and explained calmly that the bucket on the front was for pushing stuff. I came to realize that the calmer he explained something the more pissed off he was 😂😂. I know he was pissed because at the end of the day he explained the merits of spring steel. I was young and didn't know stuff. 😂 I can see how not being able to rotate 180° makes that harder. Nice getting winterized ahead of old frosty. I never seem to. 😂
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy 7 ай бұрын
I think you're right. I wouldn't push it going the opposite way but I figured a bit of light work that way would be fine.
@douglasjackson1998
@douglasjackson1998 7 ай бұрын
I've had my landscape rake for 25 or more years. I wouldn't mind having gauge wheels and hydraulics on it, but I'm not convinced I would like missing out on the freedom to rotate it around to push. Maybe I should keep my eyes peeled for another one to pimp out with all of the cool features. What you should add to your Christmas list is a proper 3rd function, hydraulic top link, and a couple of extra hydraulic circuits.
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy 7 ай бұрын
That is the one drawback with the wheels for sure. I would like to rotate it 180 degrees sometimes. The 3rd function would be a great upgrade for me.

If you have a tractor or skid loader bucket with holes for a bolt-on cutting edge, you can install a toothed edge (made for ice and compacted snow) and it works great for raking debris and smoothing road surfaces. I had a used curved type laying around so I put it under the bucket lip with the concave side down and rake in reverse. It still works for scooping and loading just fine. The advantage is you can change the cut relief angle anywhere from vertical to horizontal as you go. I am going to cut out every other tooth and try it, I have enough odd pieces to make another edge with a little welding. You can buy flat ones also, mine came off a grader in the spring and were saved for winter use. Also would be easy to make one from a smooth edge with a cutting torch, just hack out a few notches and try it.

seems like it would have mad more sense to just pick up the debris by hand instead of raking all the leaves and pine needles with it. Now you got these huge piles off the side of the road. Not to mention, the leaves and pine needles work as a erosion control layer. Not everything needs to be done using a tractor or equipment, sometimes it just takes manual labor.
@sawingwithsandy
