Minocqua Wisconsin offers some of the best fishing, eating and atmosphere that you'll find anywhere. We are huge fans of The Cheese Board and many of the downtown shops... and while these places near the lake help us enjoy the middle of the day... the morning and evenings are for one thing, and one thing only... fishing.
The Manitowish Chain O Lakes has a lot to offer up in that regard - and we specifically target areas shared by multiple-species like smallmouth bass, walleye, panfish, northern pike, and even the occasional largemouth bass - although the Wisconsin largemouth are usually not as large as what we grow in our neck of the woods.
We use fishing techniques that appeal across the board. Spoons flash like injured baitfish, while plastics resemble natural forage - or at times, chartreuse flash at dusk to get the attention of hungry predators in low light conditions.
If you're in the area, make sure to use the tips & techniques shown in this video to catch your fill - and if Paul Bunyan's opens back up - make sure to visit. That's a good time as well.
On this particular trip we learned a very important lesson: before you go ripping across the lake to look for greener pastures, make sure to thoroughly explore the area right by the launch. Whether it's public or private, chances are it's often passed over as fishermen come and go... be smarter than the average Joe & let's get fishing!
Pure joy.
If you are considering visiting #Minoqcua, or a nearby lake in #Wisconsin - go for it! Get out there and get #Fishing!

Awesome video. I visited Minoqua in June 2018 and I had a blast while there. The fishing was a gold mine. I fished at Little Bearskin lake, Tomahawk lake, Lake Minoqua, and the Wisconsin river. I caught mostly largemouth and sunfish; but also some perch and smallmouth including my pb smallmouth of about 3-4 pounds. I'm hoping to return there again sometime in the future.

Hey thanks Liam! I appreciate it my man. I absolutely love it up there - we're in Illinois usually but when we get a chance to go to Wisconsin, it's game on. If the conditions are right, it can by dynamite. Sounds like they were right when you went... and a 4 pound smallmouth is nothing to shake a stick at. I bet that was a fun fight. Have a great weekend and talk soon! - AJ

@@TheMinimalistFisherman I'm also from Illinois. I haven't been able to visit Wisconsin in years because a combination of COVID-19 and also, I've been serving in the Army for the last 3 years. I'm hoping to go again this upcoming September. Keep up your cool videos, cause I really enjoy them. Your channel is quite underrated.

Ah, a fellow flat-lander! And one that served, no less. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE, BROTHER. I mean it. Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate them - and I hope you get a chance to get up to Wisconsin in September. The water should be cooler then, which could be good for the bite. Let me know, and good luck.

@@TheMinimalistFisherman I drove in quite literally with a cold front. The week prior it had been overcast in the 70's that week it was in the high 40's low 50's. The guys at Helen's Musky shop said I had just missed a great bite. They said. I did catch two Pike and a smallie in 4 days. So not terrible for bank angling.

That's not bad at all - good for you man! Bank fishing here would be tough - I usually bank fish around home here in IL but when I travel to Wi I get to borrow my Pop's boat so... we're a bit spoiled. The weeds are way better up north too (in my humble opinion) so you can work around deep edges like this and catch all sorts of stuff, even after a 10 degree water temp drop!

We're up here as well - bite is TOUGH right now, we've had those storms roll through. Only fish we are catching are deep, look for the outer edges of weeds and try to find some deep rocky humps that rise up but allow the fish to drop into 40 feet of water quickly if they want. Try leeches or crawlers (or even 4" plastics) on 1/8 ounce jigs using line in the 6 to 8 pound range, 10 pound test max, and make contact with the bottom - then fish around these spots slow. You might pick up a few walleye and smallmouth, and a pike or two if you don't get bit off. Good luck!

Do people eat these fish?
@TheMinimalistFisherman

They can - sure. We tend to keep crappie and walleye, occasionally I'll clean a 2 pound largemouth bass if it comes out of super clear water (like this). Smallmouth bass are good too, but a bit stronger tasting... and pike... pike a delicious but there are a few tricks to cleaning them to keep the bones out. Good luck! - AJ

@@michaelmontgomery2535 they are tasty little nuggets for sure. It's always misleading how much meat is there though, once you fillet 'em you see they're so fat, but it's all rib cage! 🤣🤣🤣

FIBs, gotta have them to help our economy but please treat us locals like neighbors not worker bees here to provide you every pleasure on your vacation. AND, Slow down you’re not in the rush rush city anymore, we are a little more relaxed up here unless some jackass riding the bumper because they’re in a hurry to get to the cabin. R-E-L-A-X
