Tiny little creek bass are just as much fun to catch as that six pounder at the lake and every now and again when you get that 5-6 pounder out of the creek, it’s a undescribable feeling lol for every 5 pound bass in the creek there’s 10,000 in the lake. Big bass out of small unstocked water is next level in the game.

Made it out to a small town that had a ton of rivers and streams and spent the day fishing at two of them and landed 9 red ear/ bluegill, 1 small largemouth bass, and somehow a 5lb black river catfish. Great Saturday of creek fishing!

Great video. Some nice catches. The reason the line is getting past the spool into the side plates is you have to much line on the reel. Try only putting about 50-60 meters of line on the reel should help keep that from happening.

John the Zephyr is known for the line going behind the spool. That’s why it is better to use the Japanese braid in .6 goh and only crank the handle on the reel about 55 times and do not put any more line than that on it. And the amount of cranks is about 125 feet of line. Hope this helps.

John, saw your truck next to the creek I assume the day you made this last week. I will try my luck on Sunday. Have you ever tried on the other side of road?
@mattstephens88877 ай бұрын
For the line issue - I am going to assume that you have the tension adjusted correctly and that with little side to side play in the spool you still have a gap on that side between the spool and the frame. Can you confirm that even with the tension maxed out the gap still exists? If so, remove the palm plate. Take the little clip / spring out (watch out it will fly away) and remove the bearing and the spacers and or felt thing behind it. Make sure you note the order. Put it back together with just the bearing. Is the gap still there? Then, take the bearing out and put it back together with just the spacers and felt thing. Is the gap there? Then do it once more with just the felt. Any gap? I suspect that your spool is not seating correctly within the frame of reel, which is a manufacturing defect causing the gap that the line is getting into. If you want to know for sure, let me know if you have the gap present in the configurations I gave you above.

That 6lb mono should not be getting stuck in the spool/frame gap...it is doing that because of poor manufacturing tolerances. A quality BFS reel will be able to contain even 6-8 lb braid, which is less than 2lb mono diameter, within the design of the spool and frame enclosure. Thanks for the video, always a pleasure to watch your adventures.
