The original idea/inspiration was to apply the idea of fractal growth to wave folding. I love Serge Modular waveshapers, and wanted to do something similar. This isn't really fractal growth, but if you think of the 8 step sequence as a fractal (a unit of data) it does grow in a fractal-ish way.
