I’ve never understood why it’s a debate. Original American game mistranslated it. She has never been known official in translation as ‘Aeris’ since that original American release. It’s always been Aerith. You can call her whatever you want in your game but canonically it’s ‘Aerith’. It’s hilariously simple. If you debate that canonically it’s Aeris you are objectively wrong.

@4surprisingly That simply isn't a good comparison. I certainly see your point, but you'll need a better frame of reference. Jackie Chan has been the name that audiences have known him for in the West for decades, and is very evidently his professional name. This has been reinforced by media upon media upon media. Aeris was within one game. The orignal American release. Since then, it has always been corected. It was clearly a mistake, and the developers have acknowledged it as such. Whether or not you grew up with Aeris, it is no longer her name, and hasn't been since the orignal release back in 1997. Crisis Core, Advent Children, Kingdom Hearts, all have specifically labelled her as Aerith, and Square have gone out of their way to make this correction clear. You can call her Aeris, but that is not her canon name within the vast majority of the canon. It would be cherry picking to take the mistake and demand that be the offical canon name just because you were specifically brought up with it. This is not a debate. Her name is objectively Aerith in all releases but the original North American copy of FFVII. It voids discussion, whether or not you want it to be otherwise. Once again, no problem with wanting her western name to be Aeris, but it is wrong, and should not be her western name within all coming releases. To do so would obfuscate the matter beyond reason and solely for the feelings of those that played the International release of the game, not the canonicity of the story. It was a change I myself didn’t like at first, but once I saw the reasoning it’s impossible to argue against it. You might have had a point before crisis core, before advent children, before kingdom hearts. But certainly not now.

Story summary: while trying to work out if he was a man or a woman, Vincent had the power of Hot Topic forcibly inserted into him, then was cucked by a mad scientist and left for dead. Mad scientist attempted an experiment to see if the planet was stupid enough to be tricked into killing itself after finding it was stupid enough to let him be alive after mutating into a bunch of Resident Evil monsters and then exploding. It just barely wasn't. Also, Gackt was there. The end.

Clemps, many might dismiss this, but I like when people discuss their "teenage" things. This game was your teenage game, and you respect it for the feelings it gives you. There are certain music, or shows/anime/movies, or video games, that people label as edgy fuccboi material, but to someone else, it bring backs the days of his teenage. As for me, let's just say they consists of early-mid 2000s anime, lot of Japanese PS2 games (like DMC), obsessing over Square Enix CGI (I watched Advent's children as my first FF7 media) , and listening to Linkin Park and Evanescence (plus other things :) ) Another amazing video! The big difference between Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus is that Advent Children is just a fanservice festival of nonsense and really cool looking action scenes, and Dirge is trying SO HARD to fit in with the rest of the final fantasy lore that it's much closer to fanfiction than an actual story. The ludicrous amount of original characters introduced in Dirge makes that clear from the start. Dirge asks you to swallow so much bullshit of Hojo uploading himself to the internet and hacking the lifestream, while Advent Children is just ostensibly an OVA where Sephiroth fights Cloud one last time.

Vincent; a human experiment taking over a non human lifeforms and chanelling it to transform and is pretty much what sephiroth does for most of 7 with all the jenova/sephiroths running around in the first chunk of the game

The Chaos gene stuff about Vincent also sounds like the dev-team was repurposing parts of the early version of the story where Jenova was a codename for a rare gene present in some humans that could (spontaneously or artificially) awaken and grant you magic-like powers, rather than a gene-stealing alien lifeform traveling from planet to planet. That same plot-point was also kind of reused for Parasite Eve.

I'm in agreement with you Clemps, I was introduced to DoC through my brother (Who loved it for the exact same reasons you stated in the video, funny enough), So when I finally got to play it myself, I'm glad it exists, but it's definitely a mixed bag for me. One thing I wanted to bring up is that the reason why the antagonists have little to no development was actually due to cut content in the Non-Japanese versions of the game. From my understanding, There was a cut multiplayer mode that had the stvets as the playable characters, and the events led up to the beginning of the game. This was where a Majority, if not all, of Wiess' character and story went into...although why he just agreeded to fuse with Omega in the endgame...I have no idea. Also, I'm in the extreme Minority, but I wanted to mention that I non-ironically love Shadow the Hedgehog, since it got brought up, but I don't want to ramble on. Sorry that this comment was rather long, I'm just glad you made this video since DoC is an important game to both my brother and me, many thanks!

I think one of the main things that I really dislike about the compilation of FF7 stuff is that visually it's so different from the original, to the point where basically all of the characters and designs don't match the aesthetic set by FF7. Nowhere is this more apparent than with the badguys here; the glowing lights, the skintight clean looking uniforms and brightly coloured hair etc. And then every time you go into some laboratory area its all clean, featureless and chrome, totally unlike practically every interior in the original game where there was darkness, grit and grim even in laboratory-type areas.

Fun fact about this game! The Japanese version actually had an online multiplayer, with it's own story. You play as some custom Tsviet, helping Deepground cause of some sister or something, I dunno. I read about it on the Final Fantasy wiki for a bit and stopped trying to make heads or tails of it.

It's funny because this is actually one of my friends favorite games. He doesn't like any of the final fantasy games never gave them a try. But we were roommates at the time and I own this game and he started playing it. Up until that time he didn't know that video games could actually have great stories in them.

They did a lot of really cool stuff with the setting. Some really solid character designs, and the Deepground facilities, Mako Reactor 0, and the ruins of the original Midgar in particular were worth the price of admission, I felt. Great aesthetic.

I do kinda wish we had something follow up on Dirge of Cerberus story. As that ending makes it seem like there's more to come. Also yes this look for Chaos is so badass and it better be in the remake
