😂😂😂No more crazier than the ACC thinking they are walking away with $700 million of Florida taxpayers money.

I am an ACC diehard having graduated from both Clemson and FSU. But the ACC leadership has been playing with fire here. Clemson and FSU have carried that conference on the football side. Without them, the ESPN contract is worthless because there are no other teams in the conference that can carry load in terms of national appeal. Sure, on the basketball side, UNC and Duke are top tier, but that's not enough to carry the conference. The ACC made too many mistakes in realignment and expansion, bringing in to many other also-ran schools that lowered the brand's value. Clemson and FSU are in the right here, that long-term deal with ESPN sucks, and without them, the conference will collapse.
@aCycloneSteve2 ай бұрын
That said, they signed the contract and are fucked. Maybe if Clemson & FSU are worthless until 2036 the Big XII will take them? 🙂
@becks892 ай бұрын
Agree however ACC will have $750M-$1B after FSU and Clemson buy their way out of GOR. ACC would have options with that surplus to restock conference perhaps picking off some Big 12 teams or elect to disband and redistribute among remaining teams.
@aCycloneSteve2 ай бұрын
@@becks89 That's not a bad idea, but if the ACC get's 750 million dollars are they really going to pay WVU it's $125M-$250M exit fee? Is anyone in the XII really worth that? And if FSU & Clemson get out for way less, then what? I'm not doggin you. I just saying. They picked the best teams out of the XII & the PAC & now you're next. IF 4-6 teams jump to the B1G/SEC we already picked the cleanest dirty shirts in the laundry from the G5. There's nothing left to rebuild with. ACC teams 7-10 might be better making the XII a 20 team conference the same as the P-2. Neither the XII or ACC has much chance of catching up but we've already been picked clean. What's left is pretty solid but none of our teams can "save" you. You're just now walking into the fire. I wouldn't be surprised when teams start to jump. As a conference who's lost 6 teams in 3 rounds or realignment I can tell you it sucks. For all the stress & worry you have, imagine doing it two more times!
@becks892 ай бұрын
That’s the Armageddon scenario (aka the PAC 12 scenario) and if that happened then you could orchestrate a merger w Big 12 for most teams. This is the reason why it’s idiocy for fans of Big 12 to root for ACCs demise. It would actually strengthen the SEC and Big 10 and create more disparity between the Power 2 and the Big 12/ACC.
@aCycloneSteve2 ай бұрын
@@becks89 I agree, if the top 4-6 ACC teams go to the P2 it makes things harder for the XII. The XII can't control that. All they (the XII) can do is stay flexible and if Armageddon happens make sure it's the ACC that get's PACed and not the XII. IF only two teams jump things should be OK, but if it's six, someone's going to the G5. I don't want it to be me. 🙂

Definitely a coordinated effort by Big 12 media members to talk up ACC instability in hopes they can generate interest in ACC second tier teams to find cover in Big 12.

We need Congress involved. Regulations for coaches' salaries. Facilities. AD salaries. Conference realignment. Conference television deals. We need "guardrails."
@dentonyoung43142 ай бұрын
Careful what you wish for. Congress will probably demand the undoing of all the recent realignment and the re-formation, permanently, of the Pac-10, SWC and Big 8 in return for their "help".

I remember hearing on KZbin that FSU and Clemson are suing for their GofR’s. GofR and exit penalty are two different things. If the schools win, they are still on the hook for the $100+ million penalty. Sounds to me like Clemson is just trying to find a way to cover the exit penalty.

dk what’s so crazy about their demands. They deserve the $$ the big boys make. Things today are not close to what they were when the GOR were signed. ACC should have done what’s right and give FSU and Clemson what they deserve. Clemson and FSU are gone.. and I’m glad theyre getting out of this crappy conference
@kennethmayner2 ай бұрын
Request damages? If that is the case shouldn't Wake Forest and Boston College do the same to FSU and Clemson for damaging their athletic futures? Silly argument that will not hold up. This is an angle to reach a settlement.

FSU and Clemson are gone no matter what, they will leave. This is to determine cost. They are gone.

That's a very shallow take. This ain't about Clemson and FSU, this is about Espn exploding an entire power conference so they can get out of contract negotiations and pick over the carcass with their partner in crime, Foxsports.

Pretty comical grievance alleged by Clemson… ha! I do think you’re correct on the end game of just wearing down the opposition with endless lawsuits until they finally settle and part ways just to avoid further hassles.

This is a bad take. What CU is actually claiming is that the ACC is lying about contracts and improper actions to make other conferences question their willingness to abide by legal obligations. They should sue for damages. BTW, there’s a reason that most have stopped referring to the ACC GOR as “iron clad” since major contractual changes were made by the ACC commissioner without a vote to approve.
@ryanthomas8872 ай бұрын
I appreciate your perspective. I need to go and read the complaints from Clemson. Whether they have merit is really beside the point. What is abundantly clear is that the ACC has been incompetently run and mismanaged over the last decade. It doesn’t follow its own rules and rushes to bad decisions. Every agreement it has made was done out of desperation or over reaction during that period. The ACC is basically what the SEC would be with PAC 12 leadership.
@timothyhinkle13952 ай бұрын

@@timothyhinkle1395 well I think it is ill informed. It’s one thing to sign something in good faith when everything is disclosed and being held accountable to it; it is entirely different when you are lied to, misled, and not informed about critical decisions where there should have been a vote. It’s really hard to say FSU and Clemson are bad faith actors when the ACC and ESPN were bad faith actors themselves long before.
