From the way the world is, Cleopatra's children are like the best kept secret. I prefer the subject of them to lay low than have Hollywood or Netflix impose their alternate history on people and appoint black actors to portray them.

@@StoicHistorian Cleopatra is (in the west) arguably the most famous of the various rulers that have ruled Egypt only being really rivaled by Tutankhamen, Nefertiti and Ramses II for the top spot. I myself think she is interesting considering how she was always playing a complected game of politics with all the Roman faction, high stakes international politics at its finest. But I also kind of weep due to the fact that the history of Egypt more or less becomes entirely ignored after her (especially the current Arabic Islamic period but even the roman region of Egypt is rather overlooked). The region was still very important even after Cleopatra.

Do you think it's possible that the people worshipped Cleopatra Selene? I've heard references to Juba II and even Ptolemy potentially having had cults but Cleopatra Selene is never referenced as having one which would be odd if Juba did. Thoughts?
@StoicHistorian Жыл бұрын
It would be hard to believe if she wasn’t worshipped as a living god to some extent, the Ptolemy’s were ,and her marriage to Juba would prove that even more.
@WildMen4444 Жыл бұрын
@@StoicHistorian My thoughts exactly. We have more information on the cult of the Ptolemies than any other dynasty's cult in the Hellenistic world. Cleopatra Philopator's own cult lasted centuries after Her death. It'd be strange if Selene didn't follow in mom's footsteps

Augustus ruined Kemet. Imagine if he didn't feel threatened by Ceasarion's existence. Ceasarion's line doesn't get interrupted, his sister's line allegedly returned in 200 CE but in this what if her descendants never leave Kemet. Maybe they still fall to the Eastern Roman Empire. Maybe they'd resist the Arabic conquest of 641 CE. Who knows really

Lol. Octavian was one of the smartest rulers in history. The Ptolemies were one of the most incestuous and homicidal families I've ever read about in history. Ancient Roman emperors are far less dramatic than this nutjob family.

Why did you not show Cleopatra and her children, namely her daughter as they truly were? With all the research you’ve done you well know Cleopatra was a black woman and her daughter was brown skinned as well. If you tell one lie how can anything else you say not be questioned. Also, it has never been proven that Cleopatra killed herself with a snake. Additionally, the only child killed was her eldest Son. All others were given to Octavia’s sister.
@StoicHistorian Жыл бұрын
They were not black that is just Netflix’s incorrect take on history. She was Greek and Iranian, if you look at her genealogy it’s easy to see this as her ancestors mostly married their siblings. And we actually don’t know what happened to Ptolemy Philadelphus and Alexander Helios as they disappear from history
