As a teenager I just thought Randal was funny because of his anarchistic nature, but as an adult he's seriously admirable in as much as that he lives his life entirely by his own rules. He makes the most out of any situation, despite spending his days at a thankless job, and treats the video store and convenience store as his own kingdom.

Randall isn’t nearly as smart as he is. Dante’s just not a good debater. The actual argument wasn’t that “title dictates behavior” it was that title *should* dictate behavior, or that one should live up to the standards of their title. Obviously you can be a jerk and a bad employee if you want but if that’s the case you don’t deserve the title. I imagine the only reason Randall doesn’t get fired is a combination of Dante covering for him and his boss being as much of a lazy jerk as he is. He’s no philosopher and ultimately I think the movie is aware of it.
