Cleveland Browns vs Carolina Panthers 2022 NFL week 1 recap and reaction. So the #Browns have won their first season opener in 18 years yesterday 9/11/2022 against the Baker Mayfield led Carolina Panthers. It should also be noted that the #ClevelandBrowns haven't won an AWAY season opener since 1994. It's pretty incredible that we had to wait this long as Browns fans to see a win on the first week of the season.

The Browns started off with the ability to move the ball successfully though they weren't ever able to get within range for Cade York to attempt a field goal. Nick Chubb was his normal self, ripping off 10+ yard runs, getting the Browns first downs, then being substituted for Kareem Hunt who had himself a GAME! Kareem Hunt both caught a touchdown pass and ran for a touchdown in the game.
Browns quarterback Jacoby Brissett did what he had to do to get the win. He didn't turn the ball over, managed the game effectively and was able to stay cool under pressure when the game was on the line, driving the Browns into Panthers territory within range for Rookie kicker Cade York to attempt a career long 58 yard field goal to attempt to win the game. And Cade York nailed it. He's truly been the X-factor that that Browns were lacking over the last year. So many games have come down to within a point or two and not having a confident kicker with a huge leg has most certainly been a thing that has held the Browns back from taking the next step in their ever so often rebuilding processes.
On the defensive side of the ball there were some great plays as well. Safety Grant Delpit was able to pick Baker Mayfield off which served as the lone turnover in the game, and Myles Garrett was able to get to Mayfield not once, but twice in a row, even knocking the ball loose the second time though the Panthers were able to recover the fumble. Myles asserted himself as one of the most dominant defensive players in the league over the past few seasons and this year, 2022, may be the year that he wins the coveted Defensive Player of the Year award. Hopefully he keeps it up and stays healthy. If so, it's definitely can be within reach.
Baker Mayfield was the other story for the #BrownsPanthers matchup this week. Everyone knows by now his history with the Browns and the big trade that brought in Deshaun Watson this offseason, thus making Baker Mayfield no longer needed for the organization. The Browns then decided to deal Mayfield to the Panthers for next to nothing and had to even eat most of his salary for the 2022 season just to get rid of him. A move that left many loyal Mayfield Browns fans unhappy with the exit.
Mayfield got off to a rocky start with a few deflected passes and some mishandled snaps. He was able to turn it around in the second half, leading them to take the lead with just over a minute to go in the game due to a rushing touchdown and a long 75 yard passing touchdown to Robbie Anderson, a guy quoted as saying he wasn't interested in Baker Mayfield coming to the Panthers in the first place. The Panthers eventually took a 1 point lead 24-23 lead with just over a minute left on the clock after kicking a short field goal.
This gave Jacoby Brissett and the Browns an opportunity to put Cade York, their 4th round draft pick kicker, in a position to try to win the game. Brissett was hit by a panther defensive lineman on the drive which resulting a roughing the passer penalty that gave the Browns a chance. After a catch by newly signed offseason free agent Amari Cooper, the Browns spiked the ball setting up York for a 58 yard FG attempt. The Panthers even had a timeout that they opted not to use to ice York and just let him attempt the kick. His kick started off to the right goal post and faded back into the middle for a successful field goal putting the Browns up 26-24 with just eight seconds left on the clock. The Browns defense then held which gave the Browns their first victory in many years on opening day.

I felt the same mike I love baker and besides my love for the browns I like the panthers they were my team when browns were gone so the game played out perfect I wanted a browns win but I wanted to see baker do well I wanted everyone to come out feeling good and a last second field goal was perfect for both baker and browns!

Yes, Jacoby didn't play very well, but Jacoby made the plays we needed to get into field goal range to win the game. So... WHAT IF?.... with Backer..... we all know what would have happened. Yes, I like Baker and am thankful for what he did for us. Go Browns! In York we trust!

My dad pointed out that he got away with that fake spike at the end of the game. Should have been loss of down and a 10 yard penalty. That would have cost us the game
