In the 1980s Tony Salerno of the Genevese family told Cleveland who was gonna be teamsters boss( with Chins blessing of course). " Tell em their playing with New York; the big boys"

New York had no say in the Central States Teamsters Union. The Midwest Bosses (Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee, Kansas City) was the true power.

@@steveiihb7414 As a native Clevelander that had the opportunity to know a lot of main guys in Cleveland because of my father, I can only tell you what is factual. The Teamsters was founded in 1903 in Indiana. That was their national home until 1957 when Hoffa moved their national offices to Washington DC. Cleveland didn’t answer to the Five Families prior to James Licavoli taking over after Scalish’s death. Because the main power of the Teamsters was in the Midwest. The Central States Teamster Pension Fund was controlled by the Midwest Bosses. New York could ask for loans but they had to go through the Midwest bosses to reach Hoffa and Fitzsimmons (Detroit), Roy Williams (Kansas City) and Jackie Presser (Cleveland) Most folks don’t have a clue that Cleveland’s Organized Crime figures were major players across the US from 1931-1976. Frank Milano, the first true Cleveland CN boss sat on the Commission until he exiled himself to Mexico to avoid income tax evasion charges. Al Polizzi, went to South Florida and established construction rackets there. The Weasel was a power in California rackets until he flipped. And Moe Dalitz was Mr. Las Vegas . To believe that the Five Families held any sway during the Heyday for Cosa Nostra outside of NY/NJ/Conn is hilarious. It’s exactly why Las Vegas and Miami was considered open territories. Hell, even Nicholas Pileggi’s book Casino explains who controlled the Teamsters and who directly profited from The Skim. And not one of them was a NY based boss.

@@janconner2087 yes the mid-west families did answer to Chicago and they invested in Vegas ect together. . But in the early 80s Tony Salerno was caught on wiretap saying who he wanted for national teamsters president. For whatever reason Cleveland was involved and went directly to NY. Maybe bc Chicago had just had a bunch of arrest to the hierarchy or maybe bc Chicago and Genevese family were close and they use to communicate by il messangaro( wrong spelling) a little know position within the family to run messages to others, especially Chicago.maybe Chicago had to run national things by Genevese family idk but it was recorded on tape

Its crazy how powerful the unions are. Back then when there was real journalism. Reporters had respect and the balls to do fair and correct reporting. Presser was a top fbi informant! He was giving the FBI tips on the Cleveland mob in the late 70s and 80s. He was playing both sides FBI vault has great info.

My uncle's teamsters president 473 now retired. That's what I meant like a bully when I was 12 Give me 20 bucks. My uncle was Union president, Carmen parisi was ba what the federal penitentiary for 3 years. Then my uncle became ba until parisi got back out of jail. He wouldn't give up his spot I'll give it back to Carmen. And that's what my uncle got cut across his face and rightfully so. They grew up together as kids. And my uncle tried to betray him and not give him his spot back. That didn't work out too well for him. And then I had my brother that Mary Danny Green's youngest daughter. So I have a little bit of history in my family. Got nothing to do with that stuff I was just a little kid. But I got to meet luckavoli, Carmen, Eugene the animal, butchy and John calandra my best friend's and my uncle Thomas Tarantino local 473 president and later on b a when parisi went to the penitentiary.

I also knew about Bob kopec used to be one of Hoffa's drivers. Also Billy Lynch and Johnny Rossi out of New York. He stabbed a gangster in New York City that killed his father when he was 12 years old and went to the penitentiary as a 12-year old kitten get out generations later. I met him after a AA meeting. So I knew a lot of the heavy hitters. Especially Eugene the animal. Butchy sister nino. Bob kopech, Billy lynch, George morgan, shonder was already dead and Danny and John nardi were also already dead.
