Lol this raven clearly knew how to open the lunchbox. The reason it took her so long was because she couldn't get her beak into the opening at the right angle. What a beautiful example of a raven. I don't understand how people can mistake these for crows, I mean look at that beak and those throat hackles!

Raised a Raven this summer. Chose to stay around uncaged. Blended into the household of three dogs and a cat. Learning to say hello. Barks like a dog so well it fools the dogs. Mastered the enrichment puzzles I made in a day. Blessed to have him in our lives.

Looks like a parent with its offspring (immature ravens have brown eyes); simply amazing. “A lot of persistence will pay off” and it certainly did. I bet the offspring has learned this trick from its mother or father, and has its own chicks who might have learned the same trick. Such intelligent and interesting birds.

From what I have observed of the little Australian Raven... that is an adult Male bird displaying his talents at finding food to his partner or would be prospective partner. Note how she fluffs herself up at the end, this is what they do when they anticipate a feed is coming their way, if they are really excited, it's accompanied by a sudden double flap of the tail, very cute when you recognise what's going on here, those two are most likely in love, he will hold the food in a pouch his throat and give some or all of it to her. It's a daily ritual as he continues to prove his food providing abilities to his mate, it's of the utmost importance to her above all things as she will not leave the nest during the incubation period relying solely on her mate for survival, yep he has to get all the food, The male gets most of the food and works hard, he has to build the nest while she just watches lol. when his finished she lines the inside, (I've even observed the Male taking part with this process) they stick together and watch out for each other at all times but the Male does seems to take on much of the workload. If a Male raven finds more food then he can distribute quickly to his family something amazing happens, he will fly off with the excess somewhere not too far to cache his booty for latter and if he thinks another bird is watching he pretends to cache in multiple places but only leave food in one, then flies off to a place where he can watch over it. The more I observe and learn about the little Australian Raven the more I have come to love and respect them. They are very territorial which makes them easy to observer over long periods and in urban environments contrary to belief they are quite tolerant of most other birds. They mate, find a place to settle down and call their own but never leave, they dote over their young who stay around to help with the raising of the next sibling for up to two years which is quite remarkable when you consider they have a lifespan of between 17 to 28. What's even more astonishing is that a family of ravens will take on the responsibility of raising an orphaned fledgling and It's pretty well known Ravens will come to Humans for help if they are desperate. In addition it's proven they can remember human faces that have scorned them for years. To sum up, it's somewhat ironic that we know so little about them however, they seem to know everything they need to know about us including the whereabouts of which to impress your mate with the least of effort with a quick snack, I'm guessing this is a regular event for these two lovers. Thanks for sharing your Vid with us and I love the way she seems to be telling him "can you hurry up please (it's a very gentle sound so as not to upset him) I'm hungry" : )

I really love these birds. They're so impressive to see close up. I'm trying to make friends with my local 'unkindness' or 'murder' here in Sydney, but I feel they really don't want to be a 'friend', a person seemingly is just a potential good food source...

the best way to tell between are juvenile crow an adult is the colours of there eyes, juvenile crows have dark brown eyes as they mature they gradually turn into a sky blue colour, at least this is the case for the Australian Crow.
@GRAW2dobber2 жыл бұрын
@@Warhorse469 It's not as simple as looking at the eyes, particularly when not looking at the bird itself as the lighting, camera angle and other features aren't always clear in videos. In addition, you would need to be in the far north and west of Australia to observe a Torresian crow although I understand there is a small community in north west Victoria but I wouldent quote me on that

Raven's have wedge shaped tails and Crow's have square tails. The one waiting has a square tail. Ergo it's a Crow.
