Thanks to Erin’s competitor on The Amazing Race (Scott Fowler), she finds a new minimally invasive, state of the art procedure called Acessa that claims to help treat fibroids and help women keep their uterus. Erin is still scared about going under the knife and what that will mean for her fertility, but this doctor is promising that she could be back to her life again within a just a couple of weeks.

Salma El Deek - I started my period just after my 8th birthday and always had really painful heavy periods with clots and then the summer after my 9th i haemorrhaged and they said then that i was infertile. they never said exactly what it was, apart from polycystic ovaries. but I basically lost 4 pints of blood (had 2 transfusions) and then they said "you will have to stay on BC for your whole life to control it or you'll die" and that's how I found out. they did say that what happened to me is very, very rare especially for my age though xx

I love seeing Erin and Matt supporting each other, like when Matt voices concerns at the doctors when Erin seems like she is trying to process the info. It is so great that they can lean on each other, makes me feel at least a little better for her. She is such a go getter and probably spends a lot of time worrying about/helping others, it's nice to see her have someone to help her in a difficult time. If they decide to become parents, whether to biological or adoptive children, that supportive nature they have will help them be great parents 😊

I understand not all women choose to become mothers, and that is 100% okay and their choice, but having the opportunity taken from you without it being your choice is so scary. Erin it is because of your bravery and vulnerability to put your story out there, that it has served as even more of an affirmation for me and my career choice. I've desired to be an OB/GYN since 8th grade & coming up on my college graduation I've never been more sure than I am now! But what your story has awakened in me is that I do want to be an OB/GYN but I'd like to focus my concentration on Reproductive Medicine. Seeing someone as amazing and innovative as Dr. Lee and all of the progress that he is creating in the realm of obstetrics and gynecology, has put everything into perspective for me. So thank you Erin for being so transparent and helping numerous women out there going through the same tough battle and complications as you, you're making such a difference! I wish you the best throughout all of this, and pray that you and Matt will have that family of your own that you all pray and long for. Best regards, - Aliyah Ingram, Future OB/GYN & Reproductive Medicine Specialist.

I went through something similar. I lost 7 years of my life to issues like this. From the time I was 13 I was told there were no options other than a hysterectomy. A few months ago I finally had no choice but to have my uterus removed at 20. It was emotional and I also suffered significant complications. Erin, thank you for being so brave and open to share your journey. I can't imagine how many people this is going to help. This would have been life changing for me a few years back. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Stay strong, you got this. 💙

I have PCOS and was never able to have children. About 8 years ago I had to have an ovary removed because a cyst the size if a grapefruit consumed it. I turned 44 yesterday, and I get depressed sometimes that my husband and I never had babies. Infertility is a very hard thing to accept, it can make you feel like less of a woman. I hope Erin and her Husband get the best of care, and that she does not have to suffer in pain any longer. Thank you for sharing such a personal story from your life. You are such a sweet person. Dakotah Udvardy I had it as a teenager, but didn't get diagnosed till I was around 22. I am 44 now, and the best advice I can give you, is to watch your weight, and watch your sugar intake. If you do have excess hair growth on your face, get laser hair removal while you are young. (I have chin and neck hair that I always have to tweeze and remove) I really wish I would have had laser hair removal years ago. I also took spironolactone when I was young and it caused a lot of tooth problems for me later in life. I am 44 and have a full top denture. (can't tell in my pic can ya?) So be careful if your Dr prescribes that med to you. It helps to remove excess testosterone from your system. Doctors are much more educated on pcos today than they were 20 years ago. The symptoms that pcos causes are annoying, but it's not the worst thing in life to have pcos. Do see your gyno every year to get your checkup. Take care dear, and please contact me on Google Hangouts if you want to talk or have any questions. My Id is Rmwhite26199@gmail.com.

I had no idea, and I went with these fibroids and this pain for several months before I was taken seriously. My mother had fibroids before she had me when she was pregnant with my brother, who ultimately was a still birth due to the fibroids. She was able to have them removed via myomectomy after they were shrunk with medication and was able to become pregnant and have me. This lead to her being a plan c section, she claims she wouldn't have it any other way. She has no scar from the myomectomy, c section, or her hysterectomy that she has later on. I felt like this was important to add because the fibroids can also cause fertility issues. The fact that this wasn't even an option to my mom saddens me because she was basically told she wasn't able to have another child and that a hysterectomy was necessary after my birth and she missed the opportunity to have other kids, and me a sibling

As a nurse and a patient, I'm disappointed there's not going to be an episode where they discuss getting approved for this procedure through insurance, with prior authorizations, coverage, claim denials, any reimbursement obstacles, and out of pocket payment for this procedure. I had to fight with my insurance company for a year before I could get approval for treatment of something. There were other less costly treatments that they would cover but they had terrible side effects with terrible complications and low odds of curing the condition. I feel like that's a huge obstacle that doesn't seem like it's going to be addressed in this series.
@ErinRobinson
@ErinRobinson 7 жыл бұрын
It is an obstacle, and I think everyone's financial situation is different. I (like yourself) have also found that insurance doesn't cover a lot of procedures that we may want to choose for ourselves. For me, paying out of pocket is a choice I would rather make than having major surgery. Everyone is different.

It's so disappointing in general that insurance can chose not to cover certain things and that you are having to pay out of pocket.. Actually, I believe I saw an article earlier when I was looking into this procedure that a woman who got this procedure and was able to get reimbursed for it after she paid out of pocket. You might be able to get somewhere with that too. It's so difficult, getting the news that you have a condition, but there aren't really any good treatment options available for you. I was in those shoes too. I'm glad this is an option for you. I wish you the best Erin!

This is such a needed conversation. I work at a fertility clinic in houston and myomectomies are done everyday. Fertility and infertility is not a discussed thing as it should be. This is our health. I cry every episode thus far because I see this pain so often with patients and I know the road is long and the road can be painful.

Being the one in pain is so so so hard, but being the one watching your loved one in pain is also super hard(of course never as hard as being the in pain). Watching your loved one being in pain and suffering, and knowing that you can't do anything to help them, is heart breaking in so many ways. My mom has a disease, that puts her in so much pain 24/7. Her disease is chronic and is non-curable. And it breaks my heart everyday watching her struggle and seeing how much the pain affects her. So being the one watching will always be a hard job. It will always be a sad thing going through the amount of pain Erin is going through, but it makes me happy that Erin and her husband are supporting each other and helping each, as much as they can. It makes me kinda get more strength to go through everyday, and help my mom as much as I can, even when she is in pain. So thanks for this series Clever. Thanks for being a great channel.

I just don't cry about stuff in the media...but I am tearing up at this video. Because what he said is so true. For people with a uterus, it is often a huge part of who they are and their identity, and I can say that it is not expendable. Even as someone who doesn't desire to have children, I understand why this is a huge issue in women's health. Thank you, Dr Lee, and thank you Clevver. And a huge thank you to Erin for sharing her story.

I am rooting for you, girl. You're a strong, beautiful warrior and we're all very proud.
