Tune in to Clevver’s Facebook on Thursday, May 25th at 3 pm for a Live Q & A with Erin & Matt to discuss her ‘It Got Real’ journey. Feel free to submit your questions in the comments and Erin will answer them on the live show!
Erin has never had surgery before, but she has decided to undergo the minimally invasive Acessa procedure to treat her fibroids. After surgery, Erin struggled a lot with anesthesia, and she experienced unusual bladder pains that were due to her catheter. The first day after surgery is very difficult for her but she’s excited to finally be free from her fibroid symptoms.

Erin and Matt, You two are so very, very special. What you and Clevver have done to raise awareness about women's issues such as uterine fibroids and endometriosis is just tremendous. You have moved women's health forward in a major way. Also, you have brought the benefits of newer technology and procedures such as Acessa to light. Hopefully more women, physicians, and insurance companies will realize that fibroids can be effectively treated with a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure that is actually much less expensive than hysterectomy and I believe, safer. It is wonderful to see you happy and doing so well. I expected no less. I know that you will feel even better as time goes on. You two deserve to have a healthy and happy life together, and much, much more. Please accept my acknowledgement and gratitude for all you have done and will do. Now. About that jogging . . . :-)

Mild discomfort?... Words from a Surgeon who has never been though the surgery! I've had Endo removed 4 times and it's extremely painful for about a week! (even more so than bone tumour removal! which I've also had). Don't stress about fertility (it reduces your odds) I had a 1% chance of having Children and managed to have two (it did take 4 years to conceive though).

I know that it isn't the same as fibroids, but the whole thing about how Erin didn't want to tell anyone that she was in pain reminds me of my depression and self harm. I didn't tell anyone for years because everyone always thought i was so strong and resilient, and i liked that they thought of me that way. The only reason i told anyone was because i was drunk, but honestly it feels like such a weight off of my shoulders. So please, if you are in pain, physical or mental, please tell someone, it will make you feel so much better

I keep commenting this in hopes you'll see this, but with the endometriosis diagnosis, I really encourage you to look up and research excision surgery, especially if you find yourself still in pain that is not related to the fibroids. The doctor is right, there is no cure, but with excision surgery, it's the gold standard! It's like the acessa procedure, it's not widely discussed because it requires a skilled surgeon in this field to do the procedure. I wish you the best of luck! I was diagnosed 2 years ago, but have had symptoms for well over 10 years (I'm 21). I'm scheduled for excision with an amazing doctor in Atlanta in July. Much love 💕
@emschlef
@emschlef 7 жыл бұрын
Yes yes yes to this. Deep excision surgery and hormone treatment are the gold standard for endo as of this point since we know so little about the condition and how or why it works the way it does. As a decade long sufferer too who has had multiple procedures I hope Erin continues to improve on her health and finds an endo specialist in LA. I'm scheduled for another "clean out" with an awesome laparoscopic specialist in upstate NY this June and can't wait. For anybody looking for endo resources, support, and surgeons, I would highly recommend Nancy's Nook on FB too :) Good luck with your surgery too!

The fact that you documented something that either a Clevver fan will find helpful because of these recent videos or because maybe they stumble upon it doing what you did, research, then they will feel gratitude for having someone explain facts, procedures, and show them the pros and cons of the options. Erin and Matt, you are so strong and brave to bring your story to the world and help people thru your own pain and experience. i long since gave up my uterus, fallopian tubes and an ovary due to issues, thankfully after having 3 beautiful babies. i can't help but cry through each episode, it's so emotional to watch. i have other chronic conditions which cause alot of pain and so watching i feel your pain and I'm so proud of you because you're addressing the way many women deal with pain in general and bringing awareness about things that aren't discussed. Although your struggle isnt over, living with endometriosis isnt easy either, i hope its minimal for you and you resume a normal pain free life, wishing you nothing but the best, health and happiness. much love ♡

I love Clevver, but this was, by far, my favorite little series they did. It was informative, it was heart wrenching, but most importantly it was so raw, so real. I have always loved +Erin Robinson and her personality, but after seeing how strong she is, she is a frickin' role model. She is beautiful in every way. Thank goodness for Dr. Lee, he was able to help her and retain her ability to pursue having children with an amazing man, Matt, in the future. Great series.

For my question to Erin & Matt, i would like to ask: how was it to have those cameras following you around for this docu-series?

definitely inspired me to seek peace for myself. I've dealt with the same pain, it's all I've ever known, even when I'm not on my period. it does make having kids in the future hard for me. but this small short series has definitely inspired me to go back to the OB and continue to fight. So proud and happy for Erin! Also, she has such a gem for a husband! so lucky to have someone who understands, helps in research, and is patient ~

After watching your journey I have finally seen my doctor about my pains in my stomach. They believe it could be linked to endometriosis so thank you so so much Erin. You have helped to end my suffering and I cannot be more grateful

I had pelvic and low abdominal pain my whole post pubescent life. It took me until I was 31 to find a dr who was willing to really listen to me and try to help. He finally was willing to do a diagnostic laparoscopy and found out I had endometriosis and andenomyosis, which is fibroids inside the muscles wall of the uterus. He removed all the endometriosis that first surgery but left the fibroid because it was two close to a blood vessel and he wasn't comfortable removing it on his own. So after doing some research on my own, I found that the way his specialist was going to assist in removing it during my next laparoscopy was the best way to do it and left it up to him to handle it. After 2 more laparoscopies within the next year, we talked about doing Lupron, a hormone blocker, to stop the growth of any more endometriosis and to shrink all my new fibroids. After looking it up and reading all the side effects, short and long term, I decided against it and ended up having to do another laparoscopy within another 6 months. Every 6 months we did them, he showed me the pictures and it looked as if he had never done one since the first one, the endometriosis was growing so fast and new fibroids were forming and growing so rapidly. So immediately after the last laparoscopy I decided to go on the lupron, since my dr explained to me that he does a different course than other drs, doing monthly doses and adding in a hormone replacement to limit long term side effect as well as a low dose of a anti-depressant to help with any mental side effects. The medicine seemed to really be helping but I was only allowed to be on it for 6 months. Then, 1 month after I went off it, my husband and I decided that it was time for me to give up and get a hysterectomy because I couldn't deal with doing laparoscopies every 6 months for the rest of my life for a few months of relief. When my dr did the hysterectomy a few weeks later, there was already quite a bit of endometriosis and 2 fibroids that had grown back after only 7 weeks off the hormone blocker. He was shocked at how fast my body was producing the stuff considering I had only had one period and I shouldn't even have had one only being off the hormone blocker for that short of time. So now, 1 year post hysterectomy, I wonder if I would have made the same decision if I would have known about Dr. Lee. I don't know if my pain was from the fibroids or the endometriosis but if I was given a chance to find out which one and make a more informed decision, I would not feel so guilty right now about taking away the possibility of having kids away from my husband because I wasn't strong enough to handle the pain. Thank you Erin for doing this series. I hope it reaches even 1 person who is struggling with this issue so that they are able to REALLY make an informed decision and never have to live with any kind of regrets.

It seems insane to me, someone from Belgium, that you leave the day you had the operation. I don't even think that's possible here. I had to stay in the hospital an entire day just after getting my wisdom teeth removed. There's so much discomfort that can happen after surgery where care of good nurses would come in so handy. I don't know. A bizarre part of American culture I guess.

It really depends on the procedure whether or not you stay in a hospital overnight or not. It looks like she didn't even have the procedure in the hospital, she had it at her doctor's office. You would never even go to the hospital for something like a wisdom tooth removal here, I didn't even have ansthesia for mine. I had knee surgery last year, and to be honest I wanted to go home as soon as I could. Hospitals are full of germs, and unless you are considered high risk for complications or have nobody to provide you with assistance, you are really better off at home. They provide you with the appropriate pain medications, pain management on a minor procedure is not a real reason to stay in a hospital.

Thank you so much for making this series. It opened a dialogue about woman's health between my mom and I. I found out she had fibroids in her breasts when I was a kid, about 20 years ago, and she had fibroids in her uterus about 3 years ago. I remember her having surgery but I had no idea it was fibroids. Knowing this runs in my family will definitely inspire me to be more proactive about my own health in the future.

I'm too young to take action about the aches I've been having and my parents won't take it seriously when I say things like the pain has been getting worse I can't go to school and they always think my aches are excuses to get out of things.. but I've missed so many opportunities in my community and family because of them and I've become depressed

dont worry you arent too young to. You are never too young to. pick up the phone, make the appointment. If you cant go there on your own, ask someone to take you, a friend / a friend's parent. Maybe if your parents see you took the effort to make the appointment they'll take it seriously. But dont expect them to be the grown ups. no matter how old, if you know you need to go to the doctor, make sure you go.
