And suddenly all these inventions become part of a long journey. Thanks, very interesting.

That 1K at the end looks a lot like the 1983 2K I picked up in November of last year. Same sunburst over mahogany with a maple fretboard. Mine is one of the earliest with the Fullerton Hook and has the black crinkle hardware. Mine was missing a knob too, but thanks to the G&L web store it now has a new knob.

Thanks for explaining. Also due to the Low End Lobster’s 🦞 recent review I have a L1000 on order in Western Australia and just can’t wait 🎶 🇦🇺

Camera operator had too much coffee this morning (as usual). Loved the explanation, and love my L-1000! I'm sure if Dave has a better term for OMG mode we'll adopt it :)

Love my L-1000. Mine is the Sunburst like the one in the case. I pretty much leave it in OMG mode.

Hey Dave, I recently scored a 1981 L1000 in the same finish as the one you scored from Guitar Center, only ebony fingerboard. It looks like it was stored in a hot attic for 30 years because the finish and ebony shrank and was super dry.. body finish shrank so bad that the two piece seam popping out. Truss rod and neck still all good, though... Currently in the shop in Delray Beach, FL for a refret (Dunlop 6100) and some TLC. Looking forward to rocking out with this bad boy.

I enjoyed the video. Perhaps it would be better to add a bit more information about the time frame of these prototypes and the year of the introduction of the L-1000 (1979, maybe?). Also dating the bass purchased at GC would be nice. Please keep up the good work. More detailed info is better from my point of view. Thanks again.

This is so awesome, and explains a lot about the evolution of bass as an instrument if you think about the players and sounds developed with these instruments. Have you done a video likes this on all of Leo's guitar pickups (and maybe some of your own developments with the V12 and the Espada)? I would really like to see that. It was interesting to understand how OMG mode differs from a regular series humbucker. What makes Z-coils different from a regular series humbucker or different from a P-Bass type split coil?
