Want a response time tool? osrtt.com
Github Repo: github.com/and...
Ok ok hear me out for a second - the whole “click to photon” input lag measurement isn’t as useful as you might think. For those that don’t know, if you’ve ever seen us reviewers report “input lag” or “input latency” results with one of these, NVIDIA’s LDAT - latency display analysis tool - you’ve seen a click to photon input lag result. Hell even when Linus used my open source response time tool they only reported the click to photon latency. So if everyone is doing it, what’s the problem?

Your hypothesis is faulty. "Because variables can vary this all tests are faulty", the real answer is dont vary your variables or limit them as much as possible. Total latency IS the test i want to see and I want my own tool to do this with. USB-controller/CPU architecture/monther board/display cable/monitor could all add latency. Testing total latency is very interesting to me on my system, so i can adjust or find the best USB port, best cable, monther board, monitor,etc..

I'm not sure you understood the point of this video. From the perspective of review and analysis, data that cannot be replicated is indeed useless. The entire point of the video is eliminating variables so data can be generated that has value outside of the scope of a specific system. In the ideal scenario this would mean you wouldn't need to own a tool yourself in the first place, you can just trust data from reviewer X and reviewer Y as long as you know which tooling they're using. This real shortcoming here is that his tool cannot be used for mice, keyboards, etc. He specifically mentioned your usecase somewhere halfway in the video. Did you even finish watching it?

That's what we want measured! Measure all the different settings and options like GPU scaling and DISPLAY scaling. Measure optimizations for windows which you can find by googling lower input latency windows

It might not be useful to measure monitor or USB polling results, but it can help to measure game latency and how different settings affect it. For example, as measured by HUB, enabling dlss3 causes higher latency even though it's at higher framerate. Nevertheless, it's awesome that you're making this an option for reviewers focused on monitor latency specifically ( especially being open source makes it more awesome ). However, my question is that, can latency be normalised using fps? It can be that different os, locations, etc can change the latency measurement but if we normalise it using fps does it give consistent results given that game settings are consistent?

For the frame rate clamp - in short, no. The main problem isn't necessarily the frame rate, but the specific frame time for registering and displaying an animation. You could lock two systems to say 144 FPS (on a 144Hz display), but that doesn't mean they'll produce the same end to end latency. One system may be running at functionally 100% to meet that target, so when you then ask it to handle the input, the frame time lags for that frame, versus another system that's running at more like 50% utilisation meaning it doesn't slow when asked to render an input. That's a simplified view but in short an FPS clamp isn't a great way to normalise different systems' latency. There are plenty of other factors that can affect a systems' latency beyond just in game FPS too.

Very interesting! Thanks for this one! Maybe why the LDAT tool isn't available for the public, defo signing up for the OSRTT, I always love to know more about my setup and try to improve it.

People aren't wanting to compare with reviewers results with there own, we are wanting to see the differences in settings, mice, operating systems, basically things that you showed right here to say it's pointless. We compare differences that you, the reviewer has between different hardware/software within your pc. Seeing the difference in results that you get on your test still gives us the ideas and knowledge of what's better and what's not. So I do not get the point in a lot of what's said in this video.

The main usefulness forme would be seeing what settings give me the shortest delay per game. I still want one but nvidia is being stubborn.

I'm a bit late here but the website was wrong, I've got two units left! I'm also just about ready to get the Pro units available so if you are ok to hold on a touch longer they'll be available.

Why is Windows 11 slower than Windows 10?
@TechteamGB
@TechteamGB Жыл бұрын
It's a different system I'm testing with there. It's not Windows 10 vs Windows 11 there, it's System A vs System B (which happens to be using Windows 11).

@@TechteamGB Should have been specified that it was just a system that had worse parts and lower fps... You're making thousands of people think Win11 is worse when it's not.

I always find it funny when latency testers are used with CRTs and place them in the top left of tube. So they are capturing at the beginning of the rasterscan which gives a very misleading latency results CRTs are not latency free either especially when using the industry standard of measuring in the middle of the screen. A CRT at 60hz takes 16ms to perform a full top to bottom rasterscan so is Zero and the start and 16ms at the end. If measured in the middle it's 8.3ms
