Nah, he had a long and distinguished military career. He earned the title Magnus (Great) many years before being beaten at Pharsalus by Caesar and being assassinated by the Egyptians.
@drewwar9344Ай бұрын
@@TenOfTwenty True, but I think what this is referring to is.He took the title of great. Very recently before he was assassinated if i'm remembering correctly Which is why it makes this funny because as a "Great" pompey It didn't accomplish anywhen he took that title.So yes, he has a long history before he claimed the title "great", but directly after he claimed the title.He did nothing and died immediately 😂
@TenOfTwentyАй бұрын
@@drewwar9344 Not quite, although I was wrong on this as well. I originally thought that he was awarded the title after the conclusion of the Third Mithridatic War but that was wrong. He apparently was given the title during Sulla's civil war when he was in his mid 20s. His soldiers started calling him Magnus (Great) and after a bit, he took the name as his cognomen. A cognomen is like nickname that can be hereditary. For larger familes, cognomens were used to differentiate different branches. For example, Julius Caesar (Gaivs Ivlivs Caeser) cognomen was Caesar. One of his ancestors was born via a Caesarean section.

Just an example of how fiendishly subtle ERB writing is: notice Alexander's bars and metaphors that centered around alcohol? "Fetch me a drink...", "vodka bars..." He was unintentionally verifying and validating Ivan's point about being a drunkard.

So, the "Enjoy the Saddle" line is a reference to a rumor on how she died. It was rumored that she didn't just love her horses, but "loved" her horses, like actually had sex with them. And the rumor stated that she was un a horse that was strapped up so she can be under the the horse, and the saddle holding the horse broke and landed on top of her. I dont remember the exact details, but that is was that line was referencing. Weird, i know.

Because i know not everybody knows history I'll explain some basic things. While we aren't aware of exactly how Alexander was killed it was suspected poisoned cause legend says he fought off every assassination attempt. Fredrick the Great was supposedly gay and his death came from an assassination attempt. However before this he died in his chair from internal bleeding caused by a bullet in his chest. Pompey was killed before his planned speech started as soon after he stepped foot on Egyptian soil. Catherine supposedly died trying to have sex with a horse. Nothing deep or physiological here but it's purely a myth as her actual cause of death is the original Elvis. She had a stroke in the bathroom and died the next day cause of it.

Ivan did kill his son, but not with a spike. He hit him in the head with this very distinctive scepter (it was said the handle was made from Unicorn horn, it was actually Narwhal) that, had it not been for the event in question, would probably have gone on to be a part of Russia's 'crown jewels'. I'll be honest, if the actress playing Catherine didn't have a crazy good singing voice, people would not be treating her part like they do. Her whole verse is mid asf. She's got two disses, one of them isn't even correct, the other is just 'haha I wouldn't have sex with you', her rebuttal is just her calling bullshit (since when has that mattered in a rap battle?), and the rest of her verse is hype- and not even good hype. It's cliche hype.
