Underground ~ Is one of the greatest things about this album. Slim Shady has become a legend, similar to Jack the Ripper. It’s unclear if he’s dead or not (though the ‘Underground’ bit at the start suggests to everyone that he is) but he’s out of the killing business either way, though his stories remain (“Slim Shady, shit sounds like a fable to me/Til he jumps out the fuckin’ toilet when you’re taking a pee”). The track brings back Ken Kaniff, who everyone knows as the kinda stupid, gross alter-ego that just seems to exist in order to make moms etc. feel uncomfortable. He’s at a meeting, and he starts singing the album’s songs with his own personal touch (focuses on homosexuality), and then everyone walks away. But we know that the album’s songs represent Shady’s killings... Ken Kaniff is a copycat killer. The people aren’t walking away, they’re running. Shady’s crimes have influenced others, and in Ken Kaniff’s case, he seems to be aiming to take out gays, as opposed to the women that Shady went for. Now we go back to the song. Notice how, in it, there’s a lot more homophobic slurs that in other songs. He also talks about hunting “trannies” and beating “fags”. Also notice that in this song, there is no ‘accent’ used. That’s because Underground isn’t Shady, it’s Ken Kaniff’s diary, the start of a new serial killer. The end of the album is the birth of a new monster, and by using a character like Ken Kaniff, Eminem makes it one of the darkest parts of the entire album. It’s dark, it’s twisted, and it’s brilliant. Even ignoring the concept, it has some of the greatest examples of production and flow that Em’s ever done on this track!🐐🔥

This and drop bombs on em are my favourite tracks off this album

You should listen to the last bit of underground, the video cut it off, it wasn't a Paul skit, although that was probably Paul playing a character in the skit, that skit was the return of Ken kaniff!

I think most of us who grew up with the first Em recognized him completely in this song,saying yes,that's Slim! Honestly to me he fully came back a couple of months later when the anger for the M.Carey song gave him the fuel to write The warning,the flow was insane,that diss is brutal and glorious 😂, and the real killer instinct was back. Aside from all the serial killer documentaries, l always thought that maybe writing about all that horror stuff was also a way to literally spit out the horror he had inside,horrific stuff he had gone through in the previous years,with Proof's death,the really deep drug addiction,being two hours away from dying from the overdose,relapsing,,having to relearn everything...and maybe not being able to fully put that into words yet (as he did in subsequent albums),because it was really still so fresh and painful.

In the song 3 a.m. he also made a reference to silence of the lambs about Hannibal Lecter but people could miss it if they weren't really familiar with the story, that whole part when he says he puts the lotion in the bucket, he puts the lotion on the skin. It's about Buffalo Bob or Buffalo Bill or whatever they called the guy in Hannibal Lecter that would put people down in that pit and lower a bucket on a rope with lotion in it and tell them they had to put the lotion on their skin. He wanted to cut their skin off and wear it like a skin suit.

@ClifffSVK2 сағат бұрын
@@CliffBeatsOfficial It's not a serial killer concept album. That's my whole point. He's talking about his addiction through serial killer stories. It's all metaphors. On the Stay Wide Awake reaction you told Karen that there's no deeper meaning to the lyrics, while there is. Maybe if you knew about it you'd be able to appreciate the album more. There's actually only a very small number of people who understand the album. Most people don't. It's sad. I'm not hating or criticizing, I just wish more people understood the album and see why it's a masterpiece. That's all. Btw I haven't changed my name since like 2009. Peace
@CliffBeatsOfficialСағат бұрын
@@ClifffSVK I was joking about the name man. Must be reading my comments out of context. Eminem literally said he was watching serial killer movies, documentaries, and books. He incorporated his relapse/ accents and made a concept album around the mindset of a serial killer. Don’t take my word for it, those were his own words. I don’t agree with it being a masterpiece at all. I see it being a concept album/ experimental phase while sobering up. Had some great songs and had alot of duds. Eminem and his own manager agrees. I tend to agree with them. Much love and be safe ✌️

So devastating. We’re just one of so many families who are grieving in LA right now. My heart goes out to everyone affected. I’m so grateful that we’re safe, and we will get through this. Getting back on our feet and making sure I’m mentally ready for tour will be my main priorities for now- not sure if/how other content will be affected. Peace and love everyone, let’s please take care of each other ❤️🙏🏻

EM has had that one song on every album that just hits the ear weird and it’s such a departure from what he nor does that it throws you off a bit, but often once you get over that shock of it being so different it usually ends up being one of the tracks on the album you keep going back to. Like his newest album, The Death Of Slim Shady, I didn’t like Houdini at first and it took a while to grow on me. It’s still not in my top five tracks off the album, but I like it. Also, that skit at the end of the song was a lot longer, but whoever posted the video cut it off halfway through.

9:32 ***THIS IS WHAT HE WANTED THE ALBUM TO BE LIKE, YOU COULD HEAR HIM HAVING FUN*** It's like him releasing his demons from the Drugs (and the album is his brain going through what the drugs do psychologically, up and down, etc...) in FULL SHADY MODE before he switched to Recovery and later!! If you listen to THIS song first, then apply the same ear and understanding of not taking the other lyrics so realistically, you begin to enjoy the rhyme schemes and LYRICAL ACROBATICS that he's performing! Just a Relapse/Refill lovers POV. I would challenge you to listen to the album a few more times over the next month or so and see if your opinion is different, if you still don't like it, that's completely cool, to each their own and I respect that! 💯❤️
