Is it better if I learn the natural or pentatonic minor first? And is there a trick to better memorize the minor scale by connecting it to a major scale?

It's up to you. The natural minor has all 7 notes of the key. The pentatonic minor is a subset - i.e. it contains 5 out of 7 of the notes from the natural minor scale. The natural minor scale is the same as the major scale apart from three notes - the 3rd, 6th and 7th notes are all flattened by one semitone. C major scale = C D E F G A B C. C natural minor scale = C D Eb F G Ab Bb C.

@@cliffsmithguitarlessons Ahh okay. So could I just learn the 5 major scale caged shapes and then memorize the minor scale by just moving the 3rd 6th and 7th fret one fret up aka one semitone lower?

@@jeremymusic6544 You could try that but moving down one fret is not always the best option. Sometimes you will need to change strings to make it more playable. I would suggest learning the shapes first, then analysing/comparing them afterwards,
