Cliftons banjo skills are insane, but we also should appreciate his voice! It’s a great one!

Ive only really been into irish folk music the last 10 years playing the mandolin family and flutes, ive never been into the bluegrass world. However your channel has opened my eyes to a different and more “real” part of the american music. Ive near gone obsessed with it. So im getting into the 5 string game basically ready to ditch everything i know. This is truly fantastic. Kudos to you for introducing real “old time” music to a swede like me. Im excited to get things going. I’ll sign up on patreon and got something to do before I get my banjo. I might need a fretless one in time. .Thanks for inspiring 🙏

It's another foot tapping, head nodding Clifton classic. Completely infectious....😁

Úžasné, perfektně sladěný hlas a hra na banjo starým tradičním stylem má neobyčejné kouzlo. Blahopřeji Vám. Pozdrav z České republiky.

You're seriously inspirational. Got hooked on your Ol' Leatherstocking videos and explored your channel from there. I've always had a passion for old timey banjo music but I've rarely had an opportunity to play one with any sort of skill so I've taken to the guitar quite well instead. My father died in July and left me his banjo, and I think it's about time I go down that road. Thanks man. You're incredible.

Chris Strachwitz also recorded John Jackson playing this piece in 1967, the recording appearing on the album "Country Blues and Ditties." The words he sang on that occasion were: Going up north, throw my britches off Dancing along my shirt tail [Jackson may've tangled up his words here, the ones you transcribed make more sense!] Chickens on my back, hounds on my track Run in that shanty 'fore day Oh me, oh my Don't you let a dime go by Oh today, oh tomorrow Don't you let a dime go by Caused me to weep, caused me to moan Caused me to leave my happy home Mmmm, eh-eh Running me home 'fore day Running me home 'fore day

I like that I can relate to his pain. I like that I can at least feel I know. Makes the numbness sweet….like just right.

Got a new song on my channel bud if you feel like checking it out. New album soon. It’s come out unintentionally sounding a bit Pogues...

I find it fascinating that you got lyrics from other songs in the album and how they line up with this melody. This amazes me. Workin this one out still but it’s a blast! The lyrics roll right off the tongue and I feel like I can actually belt it out like lead belly. Vs my usual monotone talking

Recently started learning the Bass Guitar as I'm revisiting music after a short winded endeavor with the guitar nearly 8 years ago, and after stumbling upon one of your videos the other night I've been hooked, never thought I'd take a liking to Bluegrass music or the Banjo, but I feel like I'm listening to true Americana when I watch your videos - listening to a piece of history. I might just have to pick up the Banjo one day. Keep on grooving sir, music is the one great uniter, and more people definitely need to hear your playing 👍

What make is the Banjo? How's it strung please? Great sound!

Thanks, Seanna. This is an 1888 "The Luscomb" banjo made in Boston. It has a frosted plastic Remo head, Aquila nylgut strings, and a reproduction Cole bridge by Jim Morris.

@@CliftonHicksbanjo Do you know which Aquila Nyglut strings you use? Because they seem to be tuned higher than what mine can achieve
