It's not weird, his tactic made sense to me the first time I watched him. Of course he has bad deaths but even if he dies alot he's always up in cs. Learning to cs properly got me from Silver to Plat, it's way more safe and a better tactic than chasing kills. People in low elo will probably flame you for splitting and blame you for everything but that's how I win most of my games lol. And as you can see he really shit on that Darius in the end even if he had more kills
