Climate change and the turf wars in Ireland

You can literally call this a Turf War!
In Ireland, people have been cutting turf for centuries to heat their homes. The main source of turf, peatlands, are for several reasons a precious piece of nature. When re-wetted they have a rich biodiversity and they are five times more efficient in capturing carbon from the atmosphere than woodlands.
Peatlands used to be widespread all over Europe, but in most countries, they have disappeared because of turf cutting. The vast majority of remaining European peatlands are in Ireland.
The Irish government wants to preserve this and wants to use the peatlands to fight climate change. This November a ban on the commercial sale of turf came into force.
Many Irish people, especially in the countryside, see this as an attack on their traditional way of life.
