Description: Al Gore’s movie An Inconvenient Truth (2006) was the vehicle that pushed climate change into the forefront of national consciousness. The current generation of high school and college-aged young adults is the first that has grown up with an awareness of climate change and its potential consequences. How does this generation perceive climate change and its own future given that perception? How does education in climate change alter those perceptions? This talk examines the perception of climate change, its potential consequences on the future of high school students (age 16-18) before and after being educated on the evidence, and mitigation strategies of climate change.
Bio: Mr. Isaac is a lifelong educator. His life path has taken him on a wild ride from working as a sailing instructor to banker; to “working” as a stay at home dad, firefighter, and EMT to finally finding and fulfilling his passion in high school science education. Strident about the education of young minds, project-based learning, and earth and space sciences, Mr. Isaac strives to get young minds to open to the amazing world around them: “Get your head out of your phone,” he admonishes them. Mr. Isaac, the oldest faculty member at South Fayette High School, has been teaching for only seven years. He enjoys the responsibility and latitude of being the old guy that never follows the rules.

We live in a dead, static universe that isn’t subject to change. The geological record proves it without doubt. Therefore, any changes that occur and continue to occur are our fault.
