its not even to do with male to female farming. who would you pick some one that produced stable crops year after year or a new person? if a woman could produced stable crops bring them on board but at the end of the day its nothing to do with woman or men its to do with crop output. this comes across as devesion more then anything thing else even if you don't think this was your goal. have that in mind next time. if not i will post this in a note pad and will copy and past it. fair well and have a good day.

I completely agree with the idea of not everyone will be impacted the same by climate change. It differs, as you said, between income level, geographical location, and even gender. But don't you think relating climate change with women with that approach is kinda farfetched? I mean if you do that approach you can literally connect almost anything with climate change. For instance, with that views (albeit this is a very extreme case) advancement of medicine that creates better health and life expectancy, types of pregnancy tools like test tube babies, or campaign in Japan to promotes marriage and children to fight aging population, receiving immigrant to a country that creates more need for resources can be considered a bad thing to the environment. There's nothing wrong in empowering women it is necessary for our society but to make another focus in this fight against climate change will just divert resources from the real fight. For example, if you're talking about the output of agriculture. if you said the solution is to empower women with education and such, it can even divert them from the agriculture sectors as we can see less and less educated person (men or women) go to work in the agriculture sectors. Or we can shift our focus to the research on how to improve input from technology, agriculture management, how to limit emission from agriculture, etc. Just for disclosure, I'm fully agreed with the importance of empowering women, and yes we have huge problems regarding gender inequality that need to be solved and I think this also applied to various of minority group that still face discrimination till today. But the idea of this eco-feminism I think is not the best way to approach climate change. However, in terms of impact, I would agree that if there is a certain focus on the impact of climate change on a certain group.

the big difference between some of the examples you listed and looking at gender - is that women make up greater than 50% of the globes population. so analyzing how structural and societal forces influence women's educational attainment (and other factors) is definitely a good tool for addressing some solutions to climate change. of course, this video isn't saying this is the only solution, but it is one piece in a very complicated puzzle. personally, my main interest in this area, that the video only touches on briefly is gender-focused climate policy. which is a huge topic, but if you're up for some reading, I highly recommend checking out this org: wedo.org/

I remember reading recently about how being environmentally friendly is seen as feminine by men (at least where I'm from), which in turn made the men less likely to choose sustainable options in front of other men for fear of judgment, which seemed bananas to me, but I guess if climate change won't impact them as much then... 🙄🤦‍♀️🙈

Same here in Ecuador. Men who care about the environment are seem as weak-minded and anxious by the rest because of cultural issues.The government of Lenin Moreno brags about the clean-energy generated from the dams in the mountains but there are no real plans to create awareness in the people to tackle the real problem from the roots. In fact i don't know if you guys know about the Chevron case but it's worth a read about government negligence on enviromental issues.

thats a super good question. ecofeminism is saddled with a lot of baggage now (as we discussed in a lot more detail in charlie's video) so I'm not sure that i'd want to try redefining that word. However, there is definitely a place for feminist perspectives on climate and examining both impacts and solutions through a feminist lens. Just this morning I got a press release with the subject line: "Women’s Rights and Climate Activists to Host Briefing on A Feminist Agenda for the Green New Deal" - so it is clear there are organizations trying to create, as you say, a framework that can impact policy and decision making. here's their website: feministgreennewdeal.com/

To me the video sounds like there is education missing in general and not only for one gender. Especially after seeing the stats in the US. Sure, having a child without planning it, doesn't always have to be a bad thing depending on the parents' relationship. In general it shows a lack in knowledge of both parties involved. As a man it is in my interest not to have unwanted children, too. Of course it's a different situation for women as they are the ones getting pregnant and giving birth. The blame for an unwanted child goes to both parties though.

yesssss this quality is what I'm shooting for. I am wanting to speak on climate change on youtube and have recently started making a few videos to see if I'm enjoying it, and so far I am! I'm about to separate my climate content from my book content, but this is exactly what I would love to help talk about on this platform. I actually wrote a paper in grad school about how climate change (and as you point out, climate change solutions) can affect people differently and it was fascinating and heartbreaking to learn more about. This is much a geographical and religious problem, to focus the resources where it's most needed. As seen in the agricultural statistics, 0.8% of women own land in Saudi Arabia this is similar in other muslim countries. The women oppression is at top in these places, and if we want to have the greatest impact this is the places to focus on.

La estadística de las mujeres propietarias de tierra no la conocía con exactitud, pero sí había escuchado de ella; me parece impresionante. Algo que sí conocía era sobre la educación sexual como solución para el acelerado calentamiento global. Como opinión personal creo que se debe luchar por una mejor educación sexual para todos los géneros, ¡es algo necesario para todo mundo! Otra opinión personal es que las conductas sexistas se encuentran presentes (sutilmente o no) en casi todo ámbito. Hay cierta urgencia con el dominio del medio ambiente (feminismo ecológico), pero también se le debe poner cuidado a otras esferas (laboral, política, etc).

The Eemian interglacial was warmer than the Holocene Climate Optimum with less CO2 than the latter. The Holocene Climate Optimum was warmer than the present by as much as 2C and the Sahara was wet with adundant life. It is currently cooler than the Holocene Climate Optimum. The Eemian ended as temperatures dropped to glacial temperatures while CO2 remained elevated. CO2 was unable to prevent temperatures falling. Heat does not make deserts but lack of moisture. There are two desert 'belts' around the earth at 15° and 30° north or south of the Equator. All deserts are in these two belts where the air from the Hadley cells and the Mid-Latitude cells meet and decend. As both air masses are relatively dry they heat up more than wet air as they sink creating hot DRY desert climates. Deserts expand during glacial expansion as moisture gets locked up in ice. There is greater climate instability during glaciation. Modern humans left Africa around 100,000 years ago and spread out around the globe. When the world started to warm up, after the last Glacial maximum 20,000 years ago, modern humans began to thrive and prosper while the oceans rose 120 meters (12,000 cm) creating vast abundant shallows. The last 1,000 years has seen the greatest human advances (just ahead of the failures) and the last 100 have seen our tentative first steps off the planet. The relative warmth and wetness of the Holocene has given us more fertile lands and seas and longer growing seasons than during the millenia of cold and dry before, in other words greater choices and possibilities for our imaginations to explore. The last time the earth was as warm as now was 120,000 years ago. Thats how long it might be to the next Inter-Glacial.

Skweepa I believe eco-consciousness capitalism will be the approach which taken to try and solve our environmental problems, however I don't believe it is the best option for 2 reasons: Transitioning to conscious capitalism would take too long, there would be (mostly hidden but still very real) push back from corporations; and businesses put profit and economic growth above all else, they have to to survive in a capitalist economy, continued economic growth is impossible and unsustainable.

@@zentouro Before advertising, people more often chose products based on their own necessity and the reputation of the quality of the product. With pervasive advertising...whichever business has more money can advertise more and sell more products regardless. Capitalism is public choice...opportunity to vote with money...and it's not inherently bad if the public is educated rather than exploited. I am not a fan of anything that validates helplessness...like saying "we can't have ethical values as a civilized society...we have to have a benevolent dictatorship." We already banned advertising to children on TV, we've also banned flavored cigarettes where I live (usually bought by teens). There is in infinity of ways to re-establish a conscious consumer environment where we know to only buy from businesses who act within our values. THAT process can be strong-armed to make it easier for less conscious people to make ethical choices (aka gaining control of the advertising)...we don't need to trash the whole economic system... I hear some people that they think "oh, we need FORCE people to move fast on this...via community-centered dictatorship" but that is ALSO pie in the sky. Who's going to decide what's most important? Who's going to lead? How will they get and use money and resources?
