By the time if we are lucky enough to get statehood or more legislative powers to govern ourselves much would have already been lost environmentally. We need not go as far as the national capital Delhi to be heard. Look around Leh town and its adjoining areas its environment destruction at its highest level. Water table has reached its finishing point, there is plastic/ garbage around all empty spaces . Our river is a following sewer with all households emptying their waste water in it. All along the mountain beds sand making factories ( without environmental clearance) are eating away the mountain beds . These machines throw tiny sand particles in air causing lung diseases to villages close by, Stok village is an example. Who moniters the lacs and lacs of migrant workers and the sanitation and behaviours. Recently our eight monasteries got robbed of their valuables. I see it as a fallout of uncontrolled, unsustainable , unmindful tourism activities.

What seems like technological development for now , may not be actually development in the future. The over consumption of electricity by Metro politan city comes at the cost of people like Ladakh, where acres of Solar panels are laid affecting the local environment. I think we all need to reimagine what development actually means, it shouldn't be just roads and transportation, but more than that. 😊😊
