I appreciate the final comments about mental health. Lately, my news consumption is limited to daytime exercising. At night, I watch soothing videos and read books that make me laugh. The next morning, I start again with the bad news re. climate and politics... and do what I can to help. I'm in my 70s now. I've lived my life, as environmentally conscious as I could, since the 1960s when we young people had so much hope. Our modern society has been profoundly disappointing. And my heart really aches for the youth.

One studt found that Trump supporters tend to exhibit narcissistic traits similar to those displayed by Trump himself. The research identified antagonism and indifference to others as key narcissistic traits that predicted support for Trump in the 2020 election, suggesting that his supporters may be drawn to his grandiose and aggressive personality.

I’m a fan of the program, I watch Paul Beckwith’s podcasts- and the future is bleak. The rise of CO2 since 1950 has been almost vertical- more than 100ppm in 75 years. The temperature will rise accordingly. The only reason it didn’t rise so fast was the ice which in 1950 was so dense and solid, both in the arctic and Antarctic. Well the melting of of ice has started and accelerating. We’re doomed- Unless a Critical Mass of Popular Discontent, Activism and Resistance Comes together for a Fightback. It’s unfortunately happening too slow. But the Task remains. If We The People, Don’t Take Control of the Situation and Narrative- It Will Be Death By A Thousand Cuts.

Critical Mass :/ - It wont happen. Sorry. The best legacey for those that have cared and fought for so long is direct protection of actual habitats, and the continuing dream that any future people will also love manageing and caring for them as an extended family within Nature. There will very sadly be mass death by billions of cuts to all living beings on this planet, as there has been before. From the deoslate ashes different, new things came. For those with the heart & ability to do so make your imediate environment one that welcomes and sustains other life - proctect it and nurture it - and set each little ark out into the night beyond our eyes, hoping that from a billion beatiful seeds at least some will see a dawn.

Near the end Herb mentions we can't solve these problems unilaterally, so we better find a way for the world to work together. That's something I've messaged many times, is the need for consensus, but that's probably something John Lennon could have put in the song, Imagine. "Imagine a world in consensus. Thanks for the video update. I think we have passed tipping points in the climate catastrophe. I'm sure the tipping point was passed in the late 90s early 2000. Zero has been done fix the climate catastrophe that's upon the earth. ZERO DONE TO FIX OUR CLIMATE CATASTROPHE. I hate to say it, but it's too late to fix our climate. We waited too long and now can't undo all the years of fossil fuel use. There's no reversal of the climate because the damage is dome and no reversing that now.

Paraphrasing what Carl Sagan said in the 80's before a congressional committee: 'we need solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal, and safe nuclear fission power to reduce carbon emissions.' The latter solution, nuclear fission, is having a resurgence and, with widespread adoption, may help us turn the corner for a carbon free nuclear/electric age. This is my greatest hope.

Thanks for the great video team. You are a great asset. I’m curious as to each of your ideas about the collapse of global ocean currents and how they will not only impact the temperature in both hemispheres, but how it will alter the way water is dispersed in the weather
@ClimateEmergencyForum
@ClimateEmergencyForum 14 сағат бұрын
Thank you for the positive feedback on our "Climate Crisis 2024: Breaking Points" video. The collapse of global ocean currents, particularly the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), is indeed a critical concern with far-reaching implications. Here's how it could impact temperatures and water dispersion in weather patterns: ## Temperature Impacts The collapse of ocean currents like the AMOC would have significant effects on temperatures in both hemispheres: - Northern Hemisphere: Europe and parts of North America would experience dramatic cooling. Winter sea ice could expand as far south as England, and some regions of Europe could cool by as much as 1.5 degrees Celsius per decade[1]. - Southern Hemisphere: Tropical regions and the southern hemisphere would likely warm faster, as the currents would no longer transport excess heat northward[3]. ## Water Dispersion in Weather The alteration of ocean currents would profoundly affect how water is dispersed in weather systems: 1. Shifting Precipitation Patterns: - The Amazon rainforest could see its wet and dry seasons reversed[1]. - Western Europe might experience substantially less precipitation[3]. - The Asian monsoon rainfall patterns could be disrupted[1]. 2. Extreme Weather Events: - More intense hurricanes and storms in the Atlantic due to changes in ocean temperature patterns[11]. - Increased frequency of heatwaves, cold waves, droughts, and flooding events[11]. 3. Sea Level Rise: - The East Coast of the United States would be particularly affected, with sea levels potentially rising up to a meter due to the collapse of the AMOC[1][3]. 4. Changes in Regional Climate: - The collapse could make some areas of the Northern Hemisphere drier and the Southern Hemisphere wetter[13]. It's important to note that these changes would not occur uniformly across the globe. Some regions might experience more dramatic shifts than others, and the full extent of the impacts is still being studied. The potential collapse of ocean currents underscores the urgency of addressing climate change to prevent such catastrophic alterations to our global weather systems. The Brazilian Congress is not friendly to Lula's government. In fact, it is dominated by deputies and senators financed by livestock and soy producers (for animal feed), in other words, financed by deforesters. In Brazil, it is said that Congress is dominated by the BBB (Bible, Bullet and Beef) groups. There is no possible political solution in this scenario. The current government is trying to stop deforestation, but this is not politically possible. The only solution is a global halt in the consumption of meat and other animal products, which would be the only thing capable of stopping the demand for more deforestation. In fact, this hypothesis would open up space for the reforestation of most of the land that was originally forest.

I am unshakeably of the view that, unless we get away from the utterly outdated idea that economies should be all about growth and how much we can consume, we may as well give up on the human race. I would never give up on Mother Nature, however, who has sustained life over billions of years and will continue to do so in one form or another, even after the accursed human race has destroyed a liveable biosphere for many species including itself. I never voted for that economic model or the politics that underlie it, and rather than feeling grief for the tragedy of lost ecosystems about which I am practically powerless, I feel rather incandescent rage at all those brain-dead "leaders" who are driving us relentlessly beyond redemption. I will continue to treasure each interaction I have with what remains of the natural world until I am returned to the earth.

Thank you gentlemen. Paul the Cuba electricity crisis is in good part, if not entirely, driven by the illegal USA sanctions of the country. Cuba is a country that has been intensively squeezed by US sanctions, and had the US knee on its neck for well over a half a century. It's all illegal of course, but when the US has 700 to over 800 forward military bases around the globe, most with missiles and nuclear missiles, it's difficult to do anything about that until the US loses its hegemonic power. And it applies to the wider climate and environment crisis in no small part.

Sorry, if I reduce the hope in the Brazilian Government and COP 30. The government makes all, to the worse for Amazonas: - allone the reconstruction of the BR-319 could end the Amazonas Rainforest - dragging Amazonas, Rio Solimões and Rio Madeira makes the situation even worse. - it still support the potash mine in Autazes - we had a reducing of deforestation, but highest rate of degeneration and wildfires ever - and even reforestation projects count on monocultures and destruction of biodiversity I can't lose hope, because I have none. But I know that every day, we, me my 8 year old son and my family survive, will be a win. This is, what keeps my mental health stable. Greetings from Manaus (AM)

I say personally we had a climate breaking point way back in the 80's, when the scientist first put their climate data to the politicians. We had a chance then, we had momentum for a short period, until greed and power ripped that chance from us. Now here we are over 50 years later, and if it weren't for Elon Musk.... yes there are plenty of people who have devoted their lives to this but still Elon made things happen and worked very hard for it to happen. He still is. If it weren't for him we would basically be in the same situation now as we were back in the 80's except in much much much more dire circumstances data, climate condition wise. Ine of the most horrific data points that doesn't get much attention probably due to hippa...but the sheet number if intelligent people and particular climate scientists who are now on anti depressant should really be a cause for pause. Yet humans don't care so much until it their personal life being affected, otherwise they put on blinders and just trudge along mindlessly off the extinction cliff. Many already fell, entire species gone, and at alarming rates but humans just can't be bothered. We are the dumbest "smart" creatures to exist on earth...and that WILL NOT LIKELY BE for much longer either. We didnt burn the candle at both ends to maximize profit and power, we threw the candle into the bonfire whole and just said f-it. SMH HUMANITY WORSE TRAIT IS OUT TENDENCY TOWARD PSYCHOPATHY.

Toxic positivity is just as damaging as doomerism. The fundamental difference between intelligence and wisdom is knowing you cannot prove everything but taking suitable action anyway. we do not have just 2 choices, blindly hope that everything is going to be fixed and just keep pushing and hoping OR just shouting the end is nigh and giving up on life. I have chosen option 3. No one can now convince me otherwise. between Svante and Hansen, You guys and nature itself. As a wise man and not a 'scientists'. I have ALL the information I need to make this informed decision: My species will fail to save itself and the nature around us. The transition to hothouse, the biosphere collapse and the mass extinction will ALL happen. Not because of science or technology, but because of human behaviour and our wilful ability to ignore a point of no return until we are on the wrong side of it. Because of all this, it is MY conclusion that the social contract is broken, the ranks and layers of authority and rules and laws we have placed upon ourselves is null and void in the face of extinction. It is now my function in life to gather up an intentional tribe of fellows, who will all follow a specific lifestyle, for the purposes of building a location that can withstand natures wrath and house and protect said tribe and all of the plant and animal genetics we have managed to gather. A collapse ready community who's function is to REBUILD. I think more of YOU should be getting involved with an option 3. I welcome conversation with anyone who can live a pure plant based life in a lifestyle that blends tribalism, hedonism,solar punk and permaculture... I want lambs, the beautiful innocent age of aquarius types but with a catch, only the ones capable and willing to defend the last of nature, from the last of us...
