It was their second biggest hit, entering the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in February 1981, peaking at #12 in June, and spending 27 weeks on the chart.[4] It ended up being the 20th biggest hit of 1981.[5] On the Cash Box Top 100, "I Love You" peaked for two weeks at number 9.[6] The song also reached #20 on the Adult Contemporary chart.[7] The song was featured on their 1980 album, Flying the Flag.[8]
In 1998, American pop singer and backing vocalist Karen West covered their song on her album, "A Little In Love".

When this song came out I just had my first heart break, first of many. I had forgot about this song until yesterday when I heard it. It made me cry, but not in a good way. I always held out that I would find that one true love but after more heart breaks, a divorce, at 59 carrying the baggage I do, not really seeing this in my future. But I will say this. I'm so happy for you and your wife. Do me a favour, please. Stand up, hold your bride tight, turn the volume up and dance with her knowing you have taken all the arrows but still weathered the storm. It is rare these days and I'd like to recognise the two of you for a job well done.

This song was written about my life. I met the most beautiful and amazing woman 39 years ago at the lowest point of my life. I was broke, and broken. She introduced me to Jesus. That was a life changer. God gifted me by allowing me to marry her, and he has blessed us abundantly in all things!!!!!! We are now closer and deeper in love than ever. Loving God, loving my wife, family is priceless! We so enjoy listening to the 70s & 80s music, especially this song, when we go out cruising in the exotic speed machine I bought her a few months ago, simply because I like her. No exaggeration, all these years later she looks hotter than the car, and I don't mind that kind of problem! She is timeless! On top of that, we have 7 adult children and our 5th grandchild due soon. I was 35, in the military. I was married to a woman that hated me. I was drinking a LOT. I had a friend. I decided I was going to leave the wife and go stay at a Ramada. I would have died that night. I called my friend to leave a message, telling her "goodbye". I was surprised that she answered the phone. She was supposed to be out of town that evening. I told her I was leaving my wife and going to a motel. She said, "You can come and stay with me." 27 years later, she is still my best friend...and my wife. She saved my life that night, and I have no regrets.
