I've seen your videos on the Shady Pines many times and never realized how steep the grades are until this one. Tony's loco must have some great tractive effort to be able to stop on a hill and start without slipping. Keep pulling grade !!

Tony's loco is what you would get if you stuffed the 70 into a single truck and gave it an identical twin. It's got enough torque to rip itself apart.

How fun Be cool if Shady,Millbrook shop forces puts a hiden Cranks on the climaxes axles to run the side rods....and a little alternator to semi charge batteries on Solor panels to charge a Solor Generator s......Enjoy😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Another fun Video 😊😊

The side rods can move. I need to put a motor controller on just that motor, then synch it with the traction motors. That's probably all I'll do to it. It's a difficult engine to work on and it isn't the most reliable thing.

Thank you Aaron, for your significant contributions to the budget-minded portions of the miniature RR community. Thank you for your EXTRA time and efforts to film this particular segment from 20+ positions and perspectives, along with the required editing! You've created an overview of Tony's Shady Pines that I find especially interesting, inviting, and satisfying, both visually and mechanically. Would you consider a similar comprehensive overview of Stoddard Hill? Since I stumbled onto your channel in July, I've enjoy most of your posts from the last year, and also appreciate the track plans you've shared. Looking forward to your continuing Mill Brook progress and postings.

Sounds like that Climax has wind bro, nice journey up and down the line so thanks for that. One good thing to having it tesla powered is no cinders in ya eyes. Safe travels. Ken.

It is way simpler than Tesla technology. Except for the motor controller, this is 1980's technology. The motor is 2010's tech.

Good morning, I'm watching a video on shady pines railway,and you drove to the end of the line, Can you do another switch back there and go back up to that flat spot,I see in your video???😊

That 4 axles steamer is really impressive with just 2 motors on axles. How much does she weight ?, motors size ? Is there different wattage cause they´re not huge. Dynamic brake for the descent ? Now we have to see her adhesion on wet leaves...and that will happen pretty soon. Impressive controled ride. I remember a guy with a funny, but not so funny face on that 10% grade.... Spring switch on switchback will be a great add on. Thanks for the ride.
@MillBrookRailroad

The electric Climax weighs a bunch. Probably 300 pounds. The motors are 24V 500W MY-1020 motors, identical to the traction motors on MLBK 70 and 71 with the same gear reduction as MLBK and 71, but stuffed into each truck. They have regenerative brakes and straight air brakes. As for wet leaves on the Shady Pines: I try not to think about that.

I am really impressed with the Shady Pines railroad. If my locomotives could handle such steep slopes, expanding my railroad would be so much easier. But I can't coax that kind of traction out of my wheels/rail. To make matters worse, all of my rod-coupled locomotives sling off oil.
@MillBrookRailroad

The Shady Pines is a bit too steep, to be honest.

Aaron, between you, Bill and Tony; do any of you use a rail bender for your track? If not, how do you all bend your rails?
@MillBrookRailroad
@MillBrookRailroad Жыл бұрын
Bill has a bender, Tony's rail was already bent. My rail is so light, and my curves broad enough that you don't need to pre-bend it.

What is the lower track under the drawbridge for? I mean is it part of a running loop or is it just a siding?

Greetings my name is Jeff Evans. I live in Melbourne Australia and I do enjoy your KZbin every time you put them up the owner of the Shady Pine Railway, who owns the climax. I was wondering he’s got a bit of an accent. Is he an Australian? I know you mentioned once before that he was from Westgarth is a suburb in Melbourne.

@@MillBrookRailroad thank you for getting back to me. I was just curious I lived in the suburb of Alphington , which is about three railway stations from Westgarth. Also ask him if he remembered Leeds dye works near therailway crossing. Hi used to work there from mid 1970s yours Jeff.

You said that the grade was 6%. How do you determine that?
@MillBrookRailroad
@MillBrookRailroad Жыл бұрын
By measuring it when it was built. There's a 6% on the upper end (among other nasty grades) and a great big 10% behind the depot down to the loop around the house.

The main problem when that part of the line was constructed was the fact that the Clymax wouldn't climb the hill but other locos (including the infamous "Gasser"--which might be in some videos on the Shady Pines KZbin channel) had no problem going up. A lot of guessing and speculation led us to actually measuring the angle calculating the rise and run. And eventually the gear ratios were changed and the Clymax now has no trouble getting up that part of the railroad. And air brakes have been added.
