Great vid with excellent commentary as usual ! Great job on the climb given you don't know it so well. During summer, my 15mins max power is in the 370-380w bracket on a good day (with FTP around 340-350w @ 75kg, 172cm). Power is currently around 30w lower, as it's winter here in the UK, so only just starting to do some Sweet Spot intervals again (which seem absolutely horrible after a couple of months of easier sessions !). BTW, I might be wrong, but I personally never got the impression Cycling Maven was being condescending regarding his "Vegan Corner" comment (and he seems to be a part-time vegan himself). Keep up the good work mate !!

glenny oc yes I have to agree with you there. It is mostly a problem on descents because there are very few in Adelaide which don't have gravel/gumnuts or potholes throughout. You may have seen I just got back from Japan (not cycling though) do you have any recommendations for good places to ride there?

I knew a bloke who could go under two hours for the 50 mile time trial, and very nearly managed 7w per kg on the ramp test. The problem was that he did this by riding mega miles and doing nothing else. He looked exactly like one of the POWs on the Burma railway. 62kg and over six feet tall. He could drop you like a bad habit up a hill - and, thinking about, on the flat as well - but if you aren't actually going to make money out of it who would want to walk about looking like that?

I used to time trial with BIG bottles filled to the top. One Coca Cola (the stuff bottled in Mexico) the other, any cheap whiskey. I'd also use tires with blown out sidewalls so the big bubble would knock the brake pads so badly that it would eventually loosen both calipers and thus have an hypnotic effect on anyone who was so unfortunate as to consider me as their minuteman or 2 or 3 minuteman. They would be all full of piss and vinegar till they happened upon me and be lulled to sleep, waking up an hour or so latter in a roadside ditch half filed with fertilizer runoff. I as a beast back then in the 80's and 90's learned lots of survival skills. Love your vids man, and that vegan clown @durianrider is a douchebag you should have run a stick through his spokes on the descent, if he even made it there

No excuses needed, -5watts from tire swap wasn’t gonna save you; that’s a strong group for sure. One thing, on sweeping turns I’d NEVER recommend overlapping wheels unless you know the rider in front, turns can often “pop” riders which will lead them to pull into your wheel/lane.

Just replay this moment in your mind every climb you do. 13:17 and next time pop a salt tab, quick squirt of water and dig deeper!!! and 16:05 is the only thing I would suggest, too much tech to fuck up ones focus these days... you've been riding long enough to understand what you feel and how it correlates to how your body is doing... stay in your 3rd eye, and don't look at the bars because it is then that you're giving up.
