Loved the random fart at 47:40! Lol. Thanks for sharing this video. I’m doing this hike at the end of March 2022 with Monkey Adventures and nervous about the details. This helps. Hoping I have warm enough and dry enough gear, and that my stair climbing and long runs in Florida will be enough to get me to the top without altitude sickness.

Bring ibuprofen, and Dramamine , and maybe diamox for summit. The altitude is definitely the toughest part. Make sure to drink as much water and electrolytes as humanly possible the whole climb. Being hydrated will help with altitude. Google tips for high altitude acclimatization for more ways of making it easier. I also took 1000mg of fish oil and 3000 mg of vitamin b12 every day lol

@@user-mm3sw6co4c in my case I paid around usd 3k+ for the trek (upfront payment to Monkey plus the the tips to guide, cook and porters). I gave my guide and the crew generous tips, more than the suggested ones by Monkey as they were able to bring me to the summit (Uhuru Peak) successfully despite me suffering from altitude sickness . The airfare and other costs (such as gear rentals, miscellaneous, etc) not included in 3k.

Killymanjaro, I found it quite a steep hill, I pushed my best friend up it in 1999, he's in a wheelchair, it did take 3 days but one of the brakes was stuck on the chair so slowed us down a tad, I do recommend a backpack of some kind, are 2 Asda carrier bags full of sandwiches and pop got on my nerves on day 2, we also had to cut down 2 packs of cigarettes a day each, the way down was the best, got down in 4 hours using the chair, piece of pi@s

Hello Trent…I truly loved watching your video - and would love to get additional information on your journey up Kilimanjaro ? What company did you use? How can I take a solo climb with porters like you did?
@trenthari
@trenthari Жыл бұрын
I used monkey adventures! They set up everything, and arranged all the transport from the airport, the climb and both safaris and all hotels and back to the airport. It was during COVID, so I actually had to pay for a solo expedition because they wouldn’t let me climb with any other parties due to the health restrictions at the time. I think you can just ask for a solo climb, it will cost more, but then you’ll be solo!
@charismao5515
@charismao5515 Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much…I’ll ask - and hope they’ll still offer $2k for the solo trip. I’ve already been in several solo safari’s and enjoyed the solitude, yet compradore with the local teams. I really commend you, and so appreciative that you sacrificed some effort and time to share your journey. Did you feel as though the porters were compensated and treated well by Monkey Travels? Also, what sort of training did you do prior to get in good condition? And what time of year did you go (month? Would you recommend this same route and time of year?
@trenthari
@trenthari Жыл бұрын
@@charismao5515 I’d recommend the longer 7 day route if you want to make sure you make it, the acclimatization was tough. I climbed a lot before Kilimanjaro and even did Denali so I was super prepared for the climb. I was told there was a pay cap for guides and porters, they make 10-20$ per day, which apparently is decent money there. If you pay more for the tour they likely won’t get paid more, id recommend going for a lower cost company, and tipping what you think is fair pay. I tipped 400$
