Welcome aboard Cassie! Thank you so much, I'll def halla at Adrian and Ruth, they are the sweetest 😊. Climbing St. Peter's Dome could be a lil claustrophobic, but there are tiny windows along and help a lil. At the end, the views from the top are totally worth it.

Thank you so much for this video. We're going to Rome in May and this is very helpful. Couple questions- if we don't want to climb the rest of the 300 steps we can just take the elevator back down? Also, how long did you wait in line to enter the basilica and what time did you get there? Thanks again!

Hi Allie, yes, once you reach the 1st level where the elevator stops, you can decide to lounge on the rooftop and then go back down with them (the elevator back down takes you right inside the Basilica.) In May the weather is great, not too hot and not cold so if you can, best arrive at St. Peter's square very early to beat the queues or try mid-day when it's scorching hot and most people are hiding from the sun's heat ( if you don't mind the unbearable heat ). This video was shot during winter so I arrived mid-day and I took roughly 20 min. Usually, the queues move pretty fast. If you are climbing the dome carry cash and bear in mind there is another queue for the climb (also moves pretty fast, around 5-10 min). Hope I've helped you, feel free to ask me for more clarity. Do you need to wait in line to basilica or is it seperate one to dome with shorter line?

Yes you need to wait in line to get past the Basilica security check then after, there's another line to go to the dome. If you can get there early enough to avoid long queues

If I am already inisde the basilica (accessed via passageway from the Museums via tour), can I get to the dome tickey booth and elevator without having to exit and renter the basilica?

YES! The dome ticket booth is on your left as you exit the door of the Basilica - (there are signs to show you). You don't have to exit again to re-enter. Sorry for the delayed response, hope it helps in time.

Just using the stairs it was less than 15 minutes. At the first level there's a place to stop and view the inside of the dome. There's the lift option, much quicker
