I was always curious how Natalia went from doing average to being the main challenger for Janja. Do you think it was completely a mental transition? Some sports psychology? As usual, great and entertaining analysis by the way

I have an interview coming out with her in a few days where she talks about it! I think it was mostly mental, plus some strength/skill improvements that we didn't see because of COVID cancelling a bunch of competitions

Thank you for your video, great analysis ! I agree that Natalia is becoming one of the best climbers out there, and she seems to be having a lot of fun. However, I'm still pretty worried about her weight loss those last couple of years. Being that skinny for a 20 years old athlete is definitely not healthy. Eating disorders is the climbing scene is definitely a thing, and it needs to be adressed; the young new scene seems to be struggling a lot with it.

I can’t comment on Natalia specifically, but I do agree that it seems to be a problem (Janja sort of touches on it in her Enormo interview. it’s obviously not my place to talk about it, but if you have any ideas on how to address it I’m all ears!!

@@ascentionism I agree, we do not know if Natalia is struggling, but I feel like the new generation of champions is overwhimgly young and petite because the routes are set for those types of morphology (Natalia's performance is Seoul made me think about that a lot). And because is makes it somehow more exciting to watch, I guess ? Natalia might be the most exciting up and comer but everything she does Janja still does better. She basically had to flash Salt Lake finals last year to win. Still very impressive but you absolutely have to have your best climbing day every to beat Janja.

@@dormilon36 doesnt matter how I judge it. They faced of in 3 Worldcups and Janja won 2 and went 2nd where Natalia had to flash everything in order to win. Im not saying she isnt world class. Im just saying that you cant suddently say Natalia is the best climber when she beat her out in a direct confrontation 1 out of 3 times

We're getting ahead of ourselves calling Natalia "One of the best climbers in the world". She is awesome, but it's way to soon to call her one of the best in the world, unless you're expanding that list a lot. She has 2 victories at soft world cups (many of the best did not compete) and very few hard outdoor ticks. Will she be the best in the world one day? Quite possibly. Is she currently top 5? Not yet.

Her outdoor résumé might not be as impressive, but that’s quite common with other competitors, what about the Tomoa, Kokoro, Miho, Akyio all of them are considered among the best in the world, why shouldn’t we consider Natalia to be among them? She won the Boulder overall and finished second in Lead and yeah it might have bin a bit easier this year due to the olympics nonetheless climbing multiple V11+ Boulders, finishing first and second in the overalls this year isn’t the work of a prospect but of a world class athlete.

Which climbers would you rate as higher than her? imo, Janja is #1 no question. #2 Grossman. #3 Mori. #4 Miho. #5 Rogora/Raboutou She's right up there with the best females and consistently performs well now. I don't think its a stretch at all. PS. no one has ever beat Janja when she topped all 4 boulders until Grossman.

But we also need to talk about their body weight here.... In 2021 Natalia was suddenly so thin... This does not look healthy and should not be a role model for young climbers. The IFSC must finally introduce a meaningful BMI
