Both times I’ve summited King’s Peak I’ve had to hunker down in the valley below (at the top of Anderson Pass) to wait out hail/lightning storms. The first time at the top we heard electrical buzzing and the ladies hair started standing up. We got off that mountain pretty quickly. Amazing memories.

Being from Utah, its awesome to see you z-packs folks experiencing some of our back yard. My son and I did the highline two years ago (and a bunch of great trips since) in large part thanks to our Z-packs tent, packs and other UL gear, as well as the info we got from your other trips Redbeard. Thanks for the help getting across the highline and glad you got to see it as well!

This is funny. I'm sitting here watching this today and realized that I missed you guys by a few days last year. I was at the summit of King's Peak on 7/26. We hiked in from Henry's Fork last year. This is a pretty epic trip. I'm planning on doing part or all of the Highline train next year about the same time. Can't wait!

I am enjoying your hike in Utah. Wide open meadows, forest and the rocky landscape looks like another world. The climb up Kings Peak, totally insane!!!!

Great video series! I'm hitting the trail at Leidy Peak in three days. I've done King's Peak and many of the Uinta drainages and basins over the years, but hiking the Highline Trail has always been a bucket list item. Beautiful country!!!

I understand from Tristan (SUVRVing) that he signs in the book at the peak of the mountains he has climbed in Utah. States he's climbed them all. Wondering if you found one at Kings Peak.

Man that looks awesome! I need to make a trip like that. But living in N. Florida my lungs may not be able to take it.😵💨

I live in North Florida and it definitely was hard but hiking the Long Trail before helped that’s for sure.

As a lifelong Floridian I was very worried about how my body would handle elevation when I was in Utah. My gf and I flew to San Francisco and took the train to New York over 23 days. We stopped in Utah and tried to hike Mt. Timpanogos. She has been going to Aspen a few times a year for the past decade and severely underestimated how difficult the hike would be. it kicked our asses! however, we were tired from the train and hadn't slept that much. I had never been higher in elevation than the Smoky Mountains and pretty much every step up was the highest I'd ever been. Surprisingly I didn't feel any signs of elevation sickness, just general exhaustion from traveling and the hike itself. We even did a short day hike up to 12,800ft at Independent pass (my height record so far) and I handled that pretty well. I'm hoping that means I'm ok to do some more 10k+ hikes, but I def think I will plan 2-3 days of acclimatization prior to the actual hikes.

super cool! Yeah the elevation definitely seems to affect each person a bit differently. I have been higher up than I was on this trail in the past and never had a problem but this hike it definitely hit me hard the first 2 days. Elevation is a crazy thing for sure.

You guys are beasts for hiking in that altitude. Curious... what's the story on that wooden sign you were holding at the peak? Was that just lying around up there or did you carry that in ;-P
@RedBeard09246 жыл бұрын
Its kindof a thing now at high points of states. They leave a sign that you can hold up for pictures. Pretty cool.

Mind sharing the GPS file? I started hiking the highline on July 29 and bailed out down uinta canyon on August 1 due to equipment problems. If I would've continued I no doubt would have passed you guys. That would have been cool to see you guys. I'm going to give it another go next year.

That stinks to hear. Just email me at will.zpacks@gmail.com and I will send the GPX file to you.

I had a hard time with the water up there. did the flavor bother you at all or did your filter pull the flavor out?
@RedBeard09246 жыл бұрын
I’m crazy and don’t filter water and still didn’t really notice much but I do also use water flavor drops as well so that changes everything.

Oh man thanks for noticing. I left it out. I’ve added it now. It’s the Casio Protrek 3000. It’s a great watch. I’ve literally had the same watch since my AT thru hike in ‘14. I wear it everyday.

Thanks for your quick response and for adding it! I'm hunting for a good hiking watch, so I'm glad for the recommendation. I'm really enjoying the series since I'm hunting for the perfect hike for next summer. Thanks again!
