thanks great video...still haven't used srt technique to work, only on long accents, but it looks a lot more efficient energy wise ...i work with someone who still uses a blakes hitch and no split tail, says he is comfortable, and it is what he learned, he is fast now, but seems crazy to me, why he ties and reties all the time, it is amazing how things advance, using the hitch cimber and vt, with false crotch is about as advanced as iv'e got, but it works for me, the trees here aren't too big, another fav of mine for access is a doubled rope and a klemheist as a hitch tied just about arms length away and then foot lockt he doubles line, i got to say it is fast but more energy demanding than STR method, must buy some kit and get out and learn more, still want a good session on the spider jack to finally make up my mind, always end up goign back to VT and pulley tho

I see most of the pro’s using this Rope wrench, hitch and pulley system with a foot and knee ascender when SRT, it must be a really good set up.

I give LIKE 1000 ftw, Too bad here in Colombia the climbing laws don't allow any mechanical device that requires a rope or knots likes blakes. Here it has to be fully mechanical devices like rope runner, zig zag or akimbo, great job brother!

Use a hand ascender up top for the three to one, clip the pulley to that and you can even advance the hand ascender each time if you’re really fatigued.

I use my saw as a base weight on ascent and then pull the saw up to me after I am in the tree.

The best reason to use a prusik hitch over a hand ascender is that you're not wearing out an expensive hand ascender and not putting that excessive wear from the hand ascender on the rope.

do you use the hitchiker at all Dan? I notice its much more compact than a rope wrench and tether and looks a pretty solid alternative to the rope wrench, if I was using a hitch I think I'd prefer that over the wrench....have you got a comparison vid?

Just picked up the akimbo, i only base tie with trims. Crown tie for removals. But i still prefer drt methodology. Climb tuff my cutters!!!

you can use a double Munter hitch on a biner/pulley. cheap, simple, takes some practice, but works great.

Yes, I SRT with just a simple prusik on the saddle and another prusik for the foot loop (for foot assist). No need for any of this extra annoying gear.

A climber climbing off of a prusik alone would not melt a prusik it would just weld. Beginning of the video you say that a rope wrench is needed so that a climber does not melt the process I think that is just a common misconception. Kevin Bingham actually touches base on it and some of his videos

Hi Anthony, thanks for bringing up this point. If you've heard the podcast we did with Kevin Bingham we actually spoke about this point and he gives a good insight into what happens with the hitch and how it binds up extremely tightly, so like you say it would be unlikely to melt under the heat of the friction. But if the hitch was broken/loosened to enable a fast descent this is still a very real possibility. You only have to hear Rachel Brudzinski's story and the melting of her prussik to understand.

Just use the foot loop to assist in alternating with the saddle prusik to descend, and you'll never, ever again, have to worry about melting/welding hitch knots.

Hey Andy, the length of cord is somewhere between 28-30 inches eye to eye, can't quite remember. if your using friction cord and tying fisherman's in the end to make your eyes then just leaves long tails so that you can adjust the size until you find the length that works the best for you.

Chad, I've tried a few harnesses and the treemotion for me is superior to the others. It gives you a huge range of motion for work positioning, you can attach to the rope bridge plates rather than side D's for more comfort if you so wish, all you can customise accessory loops to suit you. Always best to try a few out before buying if possible though.

Good effort, and an interesting subject. But the dreadful "boring British bureaucrat" style of script and delivery is painful. Far too many grammatical hesitations, tangents and peripheral distractions from the main subject. Sorry, but this is true and you really do need to get someone who knows how to write a focused, concise and, therefore, an interestingly presentable script.

The script could do with a tightening up. Intonations in the delivery reduce the impact. There’s a whole science in this. Much of the intonation makes statements of fact sound like a question. It’s really annoying once recognised (sorry and i hate saying this) I really like the content, just want to see the content delivered with as much impact as possible. Presenter obviously knows his stuff.
