Thanks for thoroughly explaining the functions of the Double Snapper. I rarely use a friction saver, but it's usually a good idea to use a throwline for retrieval of any climbing system. The same principle applies to SRT. It's better to take that one extra step and avoid all the issues you mentioned.

Awesome video! I'll do something similar by just tying the throwline back on the rope, but in doing so, you end up using like 3x the throwline. I actually have a throwline stuck 80 feet up a fir that i had to cut to get my friction saver off and still need to go get haha. The fact that this facilitates 1:1 rope throw line on retrieval is awesome! Thanks for sharing!

That is the beauty of this compared with regular throwline retrieval. You actually have 4 legs of line when the throwline gets to the ground on regular retrieval and if it gets snagged it’s a nightmare

I used to use one, but then I started using the fimbl climb and the tear drop "rings" instead of traditional rings means I very very very very rarely (like once every other year) get it stuck on retrieval. And for me not having to break out the throwline at the end of the day was as much of a time savings. That said, the double snapper is a fantastically designed piece of kit

Like the video, very informative. Thanks Dan! I’ll stick with floating ring system. Simpler, less expensive, & never gets stuck.

Hi, I got one: great piece of gear (even tried 3D printing but not as good enough). Another benefit: a throwline could be left for later on access to the tree, without expensive equipment left into the tree.

I know I'm a bit late.....but just a heads up. The double snapper doesn't work with the regular Pulley Saver. Dan is using a Pinto Rig, the ART retrieval ball does not fit through the regular Pinto Pulley that comes with the Pulley Saver, but still appreciate the great video.

Pretty cool always wondered what that thing was for, also seems good on retrieval how you’ll get to utilize more of the throw line on the way down by the snapper just going over the union once.

Yes, you just need a throwline twice the length, not 4 times

Climbing SRT I never use a friction saver. I'll DRT down if I'm just trimming, but it doesn't really tear up my rope. It'll last all year. Any use a saver and climb SRT?
@neild7971
@neild7971 Жыл бұрын
I use a ring cambium saver with the srt line knot blocked. Less friction retrieving, doesn't matter if you have weaved through branches on the descent. Also allows redirects to be removed by your groundie, which saves you trailing a tail to release them.
@stikflip
@stikflip Жыл бұрын
One awesome time for a friction saver in srt is if you plan to finish the climb with 1 or more natural fork redirects. Especially if you use a pulley and ring, the retrieval is smooter than any fairlead pulley. But even ring and ring its sweet. Just jam a backed up butterfly on the small ring, make sure the retrieval side isnt deflected, and youre golden.

It's one of my biggest frustrations my saver getting snagged. I now retrieve it when I'm up, which does mean thinking ahead. Could you do the same thing with just tying the throw line onto the retrieval ball once through the spliced eye? Technically it could still come over the limb, but you'd have to pull all the throw line through, like a reverse remote set? Cheery from the Highlands keep safe.
@ClimbingArborist
@ClimbingArborist Жыл бұрын
You can retrieve like that but it takes creates 4 legs of throwline, it it gets snagged it can be a nightmare to get down. If it’s a clean path to the ground then it does work. This device just makes it much more simple and reliable.

I use one on my rope guide. Mainly because it's expensive, plus I don't want to accidentally damage the thing, which I literally put my life in the hands of by slamming it into the ground every day. People always look confused when I use it at first, then think it's a brilliant idea when they see it in use

Should have Upgraded to a rope guide twin line, it makes this redundant as the rope guide can't fall out the tree when retrieving it and it has many other advantages as long as having a pre installed rescue line. I had the original rope guide which I some how managed to lose and the rope guide twinline is much better, it should have the snap anchor included for the price but once you buy this it does everything the role guide does and far more.

Why not just tie the throwline next to the Big ring? And use the retrieval ball like always? Indeed i don use those balls, just a granny knot... I think si redundant hardware. And i speak horrible English haha. Thanks for sharing
@ClimbingArborist
@ClimbingArborist Жыл бұрын
You can do that, just means you climb and work the tree with a throwline hanging in the tree which can get in the way and get tangled around branches you remove etc… This just removes that factor

Or.... You could just buy an ART twinline rope guide even if you are an SRT fan boy. I would say I'm never going to get them 12 minutes of my life back but I'll be honest owning a rope guide I kind of could see it wasn't going to be any benefit given you never smash your friction saver on the ground anyway and if you're a SRT fan boy you'd have the advantage of having a pre installed rescue line set using the the twinline rope guide, if you're as geeky as most the people interested in stuff like that I'm guessing you buy every bit of kit under the sun and consider the trade as a hobby so, I'd imagine the price of the twinline rope won't be that daunting ?
