You sir, are amazing! You have taught me SO MUCH about climbing and tree service work! So, as far as your review goes, (as usual) it's GOLD!! as far as the equipment that you reviewed tho.... Looks like an expensive, glorified, over engineered, cambium saver... Sometimes simplicity is just flat out the best for functionality. Great review tho. PLEASE, keep the content coming!! Thanks Dan. I get it :) Maybe make a video showing how a traditional ring n ring setup for SRS compares to this Petzl Eject for SRS, pointing out that this redirect is not a one-time setup to work the tree and then descend and pull your rope out with the redirect and done. This is to help with setting redirects in the same tree multiple times whilst keeping the original tie in point. Thanks again for your knowledge.

It must. be said, that because you take the effort and time to make these video's and show us methods and gear, we are in a very easy position to see and comment. A big thanks. That said:) As mentioned in comments there always be a consideration "is this something for me"? Are the benefits outweighing the steep price in this case. 5 times more expensive as a two ring sling, more than twice as any Teufelberger cambium toy which can be used in more ways. If a piece of gear has one function only, then even more , better, more easy, safer specifications must be convincing which in this case it sadly does not. Climbing companies have in latest years developing gear with webbing instead of a rope. A wild guess; this is a first for more to come with webbing use from Petzl.

Excellent video - very informative. I was ready to make an order until you revealed the EJECT required an 11 to 13mm rope. Interesting, on a few (but not most) of Petzl's webpages they cite a 10 to 13mm rope, so perhaps that's more for a single person SRS usage - the EJECT is primarily intended for a double rope (MRS) application including two-person rescue usage. Bottom line, the EJECT is compatible with 10mm rope diameters.
@mikesoultanian8050
@mikesoultanian8050 Жыл бұрын
On the unit it's printed that it's only compatible with 11-13mm rope, so according to Petzl it is NOT compatible with 10mm rope. Also, you can easily use it for both SRS or MRS (as demonstrated in this video and in the unit's documentation).

Thanks for the thorough review. I'm not sure what the point of this product is, since you can't install remotely from the ground. Petzl is a few years behind on this product, since ART has been developing these for years. The Twinline has the SRS access and retrieval built in, and is remote or manual install. The eject device is really neat, but not very practical. Most rope climbers will install a high tie in from the ground, and start working the tree.

Another fantastic video from the climbing arborist. Always great quality. There is something I’d really be interested to see, is there any way to configure an SRT line to have a backup anchor point in the even of a snap out? For example a loose tether with shock prevention? I have been trying to get my head around this but can’t seem to work out the best way to do it, especially with a retrievable/lowerable system choked off at the TIP with an alpine butterfly and notch quickie. Would be grateful to hear your advice on this.

I'm a new climber and I just purchased the Eject, mostly based off of how much you and other arborists liked it. What I'm wondering now is what benefit does it really get me over a traditional dual ring friction saver? It would seem like both are ground retrievable, both require that the rope be removed for advancement, the traditional friction saver is much more simple in regards to making sure it's installed correctly, and the traditional friction saver is much less prone to damage in regards to it crashing to the ground. Further, the friction saver doesn't rely on any moving parts like the Eject - and it's not like I'm against mechanical stuff, but I'm trying to figure out how to justify the over $200 price difference and increased complexity (and possible parts failures and incorrect usage) when I could just buy multiple friction savers for much less than the eject. I mean, the Eject has that little length adjuster which is neat, but again, does that warrant the major price difference? Ultimately I'm trying to figure out what added value the Eject has compared to a traditional friction saver to help me justify the added expense.
@Edd1ey
@Edd1ey Жыл бұрын
The difference in friction levels between a ring cambium and the Eject is way different l. You're saving so much effort and wear on your body by using an Eject. That's where the added value is for me. Longevity in the body.
@mikesoultanian8050
@mikesoultanian8050 Жыл бұрын
@@Edd1ey thanks for the reply! I did end up returning it as, being a beginning climber, I didn't realize that the main benefit for the Eject (unless I'm missing something) is for MRS, and I'm focusing primarily on SRS. At that point, I can either do basal anchors or retrievable anchors without the need for a friction saver. In the event I did do some MRS, it wouldn't be for much, and that point I'd just end up using a friction saver for the weight (and cost) savings.

As a climbing pruning Arborists since 1973 safety is a concern...first mistake is your last! That product is interesting but only good for (bad) retrieval and pully! We all know there are too many mechanisms to well bleep up there!.. I also design much of my own equipment as I am also an engineer. I can do a normal 2 ring friction saver and install a pully on a single line and then go single or double off the pully! This just needs a rated pully for climbing and can be installed and retrieved from the ground from basic concept.....petzl just invented a problematic system that I would never use due to It is your life line with an oops just waiting to happen.! Still waiting for them to replace my defective zigzag I bought this year! That is a separate issue but Petzl seems to have blinders on on safety from flaws in engineering and or manufacturing! I train Arborists and wish to keep them alive this product no matter how tested it is...is not pratical and has no gain for a climber! It can and hopefully will not kill you!

@3:41, where you advocate an SRT "base" of a double-figure-8 (to jam-into the unit's smaller opening), why not simply tie-off? Retrievability I presume? I look at that kinda setup and 1st thought is "With the weaker climbing-lines offered, I would not want a knot making-up the T.I.P. assembly", I mean that's gotta be a 1/3rd+ strength reduction in the line no? With my Mercury, that still meets regulation....but it wouldn't with my Blue Moon :/ Am so done with friction savers for SRT, I (luckily) didn't waste $$ paying near-$100 for each of mine (as I simply made them all, from "treesqueezers" to simple 20' adjustable which is my favorite/default, thing can be used like a 2nd line in many instances!), but have seen such little damage to my ropes (or to the trees) from SRT-anchoring that using the friction savers is (IMO) simply redundant :/ For DdRT though, I can see the use (disclosure-- I ONLY climb SRT, had been meaning to mess with DdRT to improve / hone my work-positioning and watching you in this vid gave me the kick to go do that lol :P ) Do you ever do "2 system SRT"? It lets you move around in insane ways when you have "left and right" control, which is nearly inherent to a properly positioned double-SRT setup (and, of course, is 100% absent in regular srt/drt) Great video man, obviously I'm not a big fan of the product but your video quality is still rising it's awesome you took the time to label sections even (have to wonder if you are just handling all this yourself, or if you've got a talented "IT/SEO guy" doing this all....even if that were the case, you're the filmer&narrator so the amount of collaboration would still be huge, don't know how you do that + run a tree company, simply doing just the latter is more-than enough to fill every waking hour of my life LOL!)

@@ClimbingArborist Oh, I love gears and gadgets. Well, anyhow - one, even elder, arborist asked me, if I had to dress up with tyhose lots of gadgets, looking like a "Christamas tree"😄. Love the gear you´re demonstrating. Though, I´ve made a lot of work in very "tight" trees and for this purpose, the less gear one have to use and hanging around, just makes it so much more easier for the "pass through´s" (being slim). For more "spread-out" circumstances in "open" spaces - this, you demonstrate, really makes sence. About working in "tight" circumstances I did even avoid having an extra prusic in the gear for redirections. Just had a (some) piece of rope with an eye. I never get stocked with the loops "hanging in". Simple knots was easy and fast to make. They allways are. All the best from a knot/rope-neard. Keep on 👍

I got it and noticed that the pulley was not as good as the art which I thought strange as petzl pullies are good, then I realised that the spring causes friction on the rope. Definatly not as good as art for ascent. Comes out the tree really good.

It would be better if you can clip your retrieval line with the rope already around the crotch of the tree. So you don’t have to try and pull that locker through the crotch with that tiny retrieval ball line. I can imagine that tiny line snapping over time from trying to force the locker through the crotch.

I don't really get it as to what is stopping you from installing your retrieval line, while you are up in the first place? Why climb down, to start throwing the bag up again? You could have a long string, with weights on both sides so it wont slip off, and once you are down, you take the line and just attach it to retrieval tool for the retrieval so you don't have to throw bags up again?

It looks like it could do some real damage to the Cambium With all of those sharp edges of metal especially The part that gets singed into the trunk I’m sure It would be fine and trees with thick Bark It looks like it worked really well as a Friction Saver but not as a Cambium Saver But I hope I am wrong 🤞🤞🤞

Once again petzl have over complicated a simple friction saver. Even the tree art gear is over kill to a degree. Their zig zag had loads of issues from cracking. Metal cracks and doesn't show until it's almost broken. Bloody great kit for the keen recreational climber Or brave tree officer looking for bats. Teufelberger have its sussed with the pulley saver all soft parts, cheap to replace and easily monitored for signs of wear. I really feel simple is better and much safer to the novice climber.

@@verteup I dare say you have a thousand hours. But from what ive seen is slight carelessness when putting kit away. Eg throwing kit bag onto hard floor. Is what has damaged the zig zag and other forged aluminium tree kit, large firms here dont always have staff that give two shits about a climbers kit or climbers that are responsible, so for me the zig zag is not idiot proof, and this industry is renowned for having to employ alot of foolish workers. There for keep kit simple and effective.

@@verteup I cant deny zig zag being well made and its intentions along with self tending being very useful. But to have a friction device that responds poorly to side loading, isnt a good thing especially when you have a tight spot in the tree or when using as a back up on a chogg down. Also another major downfall is not being able to change the device mid line. All of this metal work is fantastic gear, but its lack of flexibility and one use application, is leading to more and more people inventing great stuff but with zero consideration to it's real world application. I for one dont want to use a product that's been tested by the Instagram squad with the most followers. You know the sorts that use it for an hour a month.
