I watched the movie in 2000 when I was 17 yrs old, it had a very powerful impact on my life, I was so innocent and thought nothing of being a heroin addict. Well, 20 yrs later (2020) I have been a full blown heroin addict for 17 yrs now, this shit still gives me chills and has so much more meaning than people realize. That movie literally and the soundtrack has shaped my life. Its sad. Its beautiful. Its fucking crazy.

I felt the same way about this - expect I've experienced it from the perspective of the Sara (the amphetamine addict). I watched this movie for the first time a few months ago, reminding me of all the times I would be up at 3am, sweating balls, starving, my entire body itching, extremely paranoid. I somehow washed my hands with dish soap dozens of times an hour and now my skin is permanently stuffed. I agree with you - the movie and soundtrack are really deep and personal.

It's the inevitability of life , the growing old , alone , useless, the self-awareness to know the end, in truth, far before the end of Summer, maybe from the get go. These people know right from wrong but it was of no use to them , the question for society is why ? Can we change and grow or not and if not , WHY ? We must all ask ourselves " why " these days.

Requiem for a dream was called as such because all of the characters at the beginning each have their own dreams and aspirations, which we see slowly progress into the shittiest downward spiral to a rock-bottom you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. A "Requiem" is like a Mass for the resting of the souls of the dead.. So "Requiem for a dream" essentially is titled that because all of their individual dreams they had at the beginning of the movie were no where near fullfilled, and thus ended up completely and utterly dying. Great movie name once you realize what it actually means haha
