Just watched this movie again after seeing it the first time 10 years ago and I realized the thing that hit me the most the first time I watched it: the absolute suffocating loneliness and desperation for connection. I didn’t know that that’s what dragged me in so much when I first watched it, but now I’m seeing how much I still have in common with my 13-14 year old self, and how little but how much everything changed. This reminds me of the final campaign mission of Halo: Reach. It has that bleak,solem vibe the mission has with the only objective being "survive" as Noble Six decides to make his last stand against the onslaught of The Covenant before eventually being overwhelmed but if he's going down,he'll go down fighting and take as many of them as he can with him.
