It’s scenes like this that are lacking from the current MCU movies. This feels like a casual fun hang out with our hero’s. The pacing and casual conversation and the mood… it all just works. I don’t know where it fell off…. but the current MCU needs to step it up.

@@dikni1390 The problem MCU had was there was no game plan in place after Affinity War. So this created two problems. One, how to move forward. Two, explaining where the new heroes were in Affinity War. So whether we are talking MoonKnight or The Eternals, there needs to be a solid explanation for both missing the mark. And I'd argue that The Eternals gave a very poor explanation and MoonKnight just ignored the problem completely. And everybody else just came afterward. Which you would think would play a major role in any of the heroes development. As avoid another Affinity War would be a focus for their decisions and actions.

Honestly I don’t think he’s worthy, he was just the embodiment of innocence at the time with no experience of greed or ‘sin’ from the outside world, therefore making him worthy. @@jawstrock2215 no no, a child is innocent because they don't understand the world, and their conscience hasnt formed neccesarily. where as vision is/was a fully formed individual who had the ability to understand the world around him, yet his only goal at the time was the protection of humanity, and finding more about the world; meaning he down to his very essence was the embodiment of innocence. Also i believe that the definition of being 'worthy' is a threshold, like in avengers: age of ultron cap could lift the hammer sure, but it would take effort, which is seen by him moving it slightly and then deciding "hey maybe i wont destory thors ego", if he could lift it with ease then he wouldnt have the time to have that thought as he would already be holding it. @@jawstrock2215 also i think being worthy is also tied to ones own desires, thor was inherently worthy because he was willing to die for others and for the greater good (as seen in thor 1), cap was always willing to die for those around him (as seen in CA:FA) and vision at the time had quite literally nothing holding him down to the mortal coil, and him at the time had no other desire than being selfless, which is why i believe as time went on, specifically as his feelings for wanda grew, he would become less and less worthy.

When cap budges the hammer in this scene Thor's smile drops. He's worried Steve is gonna take the hammer from him. Showing us he's still got a little bit of that arrogant guy in him from Thor 1. In endham when cap calls the hammer to him and weilds it, not only is he okay with it he cheers him on. Its an amazing callback that also shows how much character growth he's had but also that it validates what he knew about his friend all along.

The Marvel universe is full to bursting with heroes. The hammer is more selective than that. Worthy means more than just being heroic, and has repeatedly been shown to be contextual. If you are making a heroic last stand to protect the innocent almost anyone would be found worthy in that moment. When that moment is done the hammer will fall to the ground and be immovable once more.

Ya know, I never felt confident on Captain America's motives for not picking up the hammer, at first. Before Endgame, I always thought it was as you suggested "he didn't feel worthy". But now, I feel different. After I saw End Game, I feel he purposefully didn't pick it up. He moved it, and immediately realized he was worthy and could pick it up. However, being a good leader, he knew not to destroy the morale of his team - which would have destroyed Thor emotionally, if someone else was able to pick up his hammer without the struggle he went through to wield it once more. And Rodgers saw that in Thor, immediately let go the second it moved, and I don't think he knew Thor saw the wiggle as well. I like to think of it as "it wasn't a lack of self confidence, but an act of compassion', which to me, was what Captain America was all about. He loves all, in his manly way. He's always compassionate, except when it's absolutely silly to be compassionate.
@derianvandalsen

@@Ilovepoopinif he were to go through with it after realizing he could lift it, he would immediately become unworthy (due to willingly harm Thor's ego); the best he could do was a wiggle in this setting.

@@derianvandalsen bruising someones vain ego wouldn't make someone unworthy. Even if it was a friend. It is on Thor, not Captain America, for Thor being worried and having a bruised ego. @@Ilovepoopin I think that's a better explanation of the purposeful not moving of the hammer. However I've always felt that it was this alternative: Molnjir felt Steve was worthy, however it decided that being lifted for the sake of a competition was an unworthy cause. So it was either conflicted when it wiggled or it wiggled to say 'heeeey you're worthy but what you're doing right now isn't worthy' to Steve. The reason I feel that way is because Stormbreaker which works the same way didn't stop lifting for Thor when he was so depressed about the snap. Because despite feeling unworthy the hammer knew that ultimately Thor was still worthy he was just goin through some shit. Which implies that the mechanism is more complex than a simple worthy/unworthy bit. It also neatly dovetails with why Vision was able to pick it up effortlessly. He was deemed worthy because his only two 'reasons for living' at that point were to a. Save humanity, and b. Become more human himself. Which means he himself was worthy, and he was picking it up for a worthy cause "To unify this group to defeat ultron and save humanity by proving to them via the most objective test they have that I am not like Ultron even though I was created by him." Because that's how it goes in the movie, they're fighting like crazy until Vision gives his speech and ends it by picking up the hammer and handing it to Thor which basically drowns all the infighting and they get to work.

Thor’s face gives it away too which is why in endgame Thor says “I knew it!!” That little bit of foreshadowing… god the MCU was great back then. All the details and they built all the characters up over years with their own movies so you knew and loved each one. And they all had their own unique character arcs. Great decade of movies.
