Great tip, Clint, thanks for sharing it with us. I had to chuckle, as you never think about hearing "be careful, this is dangerous" in a flute instruction video...lol. Joking aside, it's a good caution as most of us that have played for any length of time have bumped teeth or a lip a few times. I'll pass this along to all at my flute circles. Thanks again!

Works well for brass players too. It is a good way to also discipline yourself.

You always seem to produce the flutecast I need, when I need it. I noticed that my faster tempo, well-embellished pieces were passable but I have been shocked and dismayed at how much harder to play a slower-feeling piece with lots of vibrato. Actually, I discovered how uncontrolled my vibrato is by doing just this. Oh, boy. 😓 I listen to myself play live through headphones even if I’m not recording. No knocking my teeth out against the wall. I banged my long flute on the dining table once. That was enough for me.

Sherry - I did wonder whether to recommend you setup - a mic through a mixer into headphones. It's really valuable ... but I did not want to complicate the exercise or give players an excuse ("Oh I need a sound system for this ..."). Thanks Sherry!

Clint Goss Yep, I’m glad to bring it up. Not necessary, but nice if one has the access. I can hear EVERYTHING in that mic; a real eye opener!

WOW! The sound from your opening reminded me of those old television test patterns from the 1950's and early 1960's. 😲

Yes, I thought long and hard about actually playing a long tone exercise for the opening. "Don't worry, folks. There's nothing wrong with your TV set ..."

Is that cane growing in glass behind you? Really like it.
@ClintGoss5 жыл бұрын
Not cane or bamboo - called "Spiral Bamboo" or "Chinese Lucky Bamboo" it's related to the lily family. Very easy to care for!

How long do you recommend for this exercise? 5 minutes? 10 minutes? Longer, shorter?
@ClintGoss5 жыл бұрын
I personally do it for about two, maybe three minutes each day I play ... it's part of my warmup ...
